Mankilam Elementary School officially launched its National Reading Month Celebration with a vibrant lineup of activities aimed at promoting the joy and importance of reading. The event was led by our dedicated Principal IV, Miraluz O. Panaligan, and our passionate Reading Coordinator, Ruth Vada Jo I. Tamayo, whose unwavering commitment to literacy continues to inspire both students and teachers.
Adding to the success of the launch was the strong support from Tagum Coop through its PABASA Reading Program, which enriched the celebration with an engaging storytelling session exclusively for ARAL learners. The school also extends its gratitude to Prime Synergies Corporation, one of our valued stakeholders, for generously providing school supplies to ARAL learners and winnersโfurther motivating them in their reading journey. These partners, together with our hardworking teachers and ARAL tutors, played a vital role in strengthening learnersโ reading development through their consistent guidance and collaboration.
The celebration began with a lively Book Character Parade, where students showcased creative and imaginative costumes inspired by their favorite storybook characters, as well as participated in Vocabulary spelling and various activities. Each day at 3 PM, the entire school community participated in DEAR Time (Drop Everything and Read), fostering discipline, focus, and a deeper appreciation for reading.
This yearโs celebration highlighted the powerful impact of strong community partnerships in advancing childrenโs literacy. Above all, the school remains committed year-round to ensuring that every learner becomes a confident, capable, and lifelong reader.

This initiative is a direct result of the commitment of Mayor Uy, who recently visited all schools in the city to personally assess and address their specific needs. Learners at Mankilam ES now benefit from a comfortable, roomy canteen equipped with a complete hygienic washing area, alongside a clean, modern comfort room facility. These improvements significantly enhance the school environment, provide a healthier and more supportive space for students, and serving as a testament to the mayorโs dedication and love for the school children of Tagum City.
