DID YOU KNOW? The Philippines is known for having one of the longest Christmas seasons in the world, beginning as early as September and extending until January. This period is marked by the start of the “ber months,” traditional caroling, the display of parols, and the observance of Simbang Gabi, a nine-day series of dawn Masses leading up to Christmas Day.

On December 19, 2025, the Office of the Chancellor, through the Human Resource Management Division, proudly hosted a Technical Writing Training at the Farmers Training Hall, USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus, Tagum Unit. The workshop brought together technical staff from various delivery units for a dynamic, skill-focused session designed to strengthen clarity, consistency, and professionalism in official University communications.

The event was graced by USeP TMC Chancellor Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva, Administrative Support Services Head Mr. Armegio G. Duyan, Jr., Executive Assistant to the Chancellor Ms. Sydney S. Halasan, Campus Public Information Officer Mr. Prince Kyl Genesis M. Española, along with dedicated technical staff from across units—underscoring the administration’s strong commitment to capacity-building initiatives.

In her welcome address, Dr. Villanueva highlighted the importance of mastering University document processes and ensuring that communications are purposeful and audience-centered. She discussed the topic of Effective Writing for Technical and Official Documents, guiding participants through the essentials of clarity, accuracy, brevity, tone, and formatting, while also addressing common grammar and structural challenges.

Adding practical insights, Ms. Halasan shared strategies for managing email communications—emphasizing organization, easy navigation, and efficient tracking to boost workflow and accountability. Meanwhile, Mr. Española provided a visual perspective on University branding, reminding participants of the importance of adhering to branding guidelines to maintain a consistent and professional institutional identity.

An open forum followed, giving participants the chance to raise concerns and share feedback. The Office took careful note of all inputs, reinforcing a culture of responsiveness and continuous improvement.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Duyan stressed that the true value of the training lies in its everyday application. He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would translate into more efficient, accurate, and professional work across offices.

The activity concluded with a renewed commitment to excellence in communication—a powerful reminder that at USeP TMC, every document is more than paperwork; it is a reflection of the institution’s integrity, competence, and service.

[𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗] The University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus (USeP TMC) marked its Local Founding Anniversary Celebration on December 15, 2025, at the Physical Education and Cultural Center, Tagum Unit, as part of the University’s 47th Founding Anniversary, a day that honored the past, celebrated the present, and looked boldly toward the future.

Hosted by the College of Teacher Education and Technology (CTET), the celebration gathered the USeP TMC community in a shared moment of reflection and fellowship. Present during the event were USeP TMC Chancellor Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva; USeP TMC Vice Chancellor and Dean of the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences Dr. Cesar A. Limbaga Jr.; CTET Dean Dr. Eleanor T. Guden; School of Medicine Dean Dr. Victoria R. Patiño-Guillano; alongside non-teaching personnel from the Tagum and Mabini Units and faculty members from various academic units.

The celebration opened with a colorful parade followed by a fellowship mass, setting a reverent yet festive tone that reflected the University’s strong sense of community and shared purpose.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Villanueva highlighted the collective spirit that has shaped USeP through the years. She emphasized that the University was built by individuals who believed deeply in the transformative power of education, a belief that continues to thrive in every classroom, office, laboratory, and field. She reminded the community that excellence is not achieved alone, but strengthened through collaboration, camaraderie and shared commitment. She also traced the history of USeP and the Tagum-Mabini Campus, reflecting on the challenges overcame and triumphs achieved that molded the institution into what it is today.

The program continued with energetic dance presentations from the different delivery units, followed by Part 1 of the games, drawing cheers and laughter from the crowd. A unity lunch further reinforced the spirit of togetherness that defined the day.

In the afternoon, Part 2 of the games brought renewed excitement, capped by a raffle draw for Contract of Service and Job Order personnel. The campus community then gathered virtually via Zoom for the official declaration of the opening of the 47th Founding Anniversary week-long Celebration and the message of USeP President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales Jr.

In his address, President Gabales expressed heartfelt gratitude to both teaching and non-teaching personnel for their invaluable contributions to the University’s journey. He reaffirmed USeP’s vision of becoming a premier research university in ASEAN and beyond. He also unveiled teasers for the new USeP website, which is set for an official launch in 2026, along with the soft launch of the USeP CARES Volunteerism Program. These initiatives reflect USeP’s commitment to innovation, accessibility, and service as core elements of its future.

After the President's message, Christmas giveaways were distributed to all Contract of Service and Job Order personnel at TMC. This gesture, made possible through the generosity of plantilla personnel who shared their blessings, highlighted the culture of compassion and solidarity within the campus.

The celebration concluded with closing remarks given by Dr. Limbaga, who reminded everyone that USeP stands not only as a center of learning, but also a beacon of innovation and service. He emphasized that the University is defined not merely by its buildings or achievements, but by a community bound together by shared values, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to shaping future generations with integrity and purpose.

As the day came to an end, the Local Founding Anniversary represented more than just a celebration; it was a reaffirmation of our identity. With a strong foundation in history, bolstered by unity, and guided by a shared vision, the USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus continues to progress with gratitude, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in service to the Filipino people.

Forty-seven years ago, the University of Southeastern Philippines was established through Batas Pambansa Bilang 12, a landmark law enacted in 1978 that gave life to a state university mandated to serve Mindanao and the nation.

With pride and celebration, the USeP family marks 47 years of building dreams, elevating excellence, and empowering communities. From its founding vision to its continuing and felt impact, the University remains true to its mandate to transform lives and communities through quality education, notable innovation, and responsive service.

[𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗] The USeP School of Medicine (SoM) successfully held a vital two-day program, “The Art of Self-Enrichment: A Mentoring and Coaching towards Mental Health Resilience,” on November 25–26, 2025, at the FTC Hall, USeP TMC, Tagum Unit.

This essential activity brought together Medical Students from Levels I to IV to enhance their mental health awareness and coping skills under the guidance of Dr. Maryrose B. Rendon, Coordinator for Student Affairs, and resource person Ms. Mary Kristine Sagot, RN, RPsy. The core objectives were to deepen students' understanding of the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors concerning stress and anxiety, and to empower them with proactive self-care strategies.

The program utilized a range of unique and engaging experiential sessions designed to foster emotional resilience. Students participated in therapeutic art activities, guided meditation for grounding and mindfulness, light karaoke to ease tension, and periods of critical self-reflection. Most significantly, meaningful sharing sessions provided a supportive space for students to openly discuss their emotions, strengthening empathy and collective understanding within the community. Overall, the activity successfully met its goal, reinforcing SoM's commitment to building a mentally healthy, resilient, and supportive environment, ensuring our future medical professionals are emotionally robust and prepared for the demands of their challenging career.

With strengthened resilience and renewed self-awareness, the SoM community steps forward united, ready to face the demands of medical training with courage and compassion.
