In a swift response to the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Davao Occidental on June 8, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Tagum City recently mobilized a division-wide relief mission to deliver critical financial aid and essential supplies to affected schools and communities.

The initiative, spearheaded by Schools Division Superintendent Alona Uy, successfully gathered cash donations, hygiene kits, clean water, and school supplies.

A contingent from DepEd Tagum, represented by Chiefs Josefina B. Palaca and Christine Bagacay, Division Information Officer Anwar Maadel, and DRRM Officer Marjun Dawal, personally traveled to the area to hand over the relief packages.

The essential goods were warmly received by District Principal In-Charge Jeffrey Charl Ligan and School Head Darnel Drioxane Parsaso on behalf of the educators and students at Camalian Elementary School and Bukid Integrated School in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos.

Reflecting on the purpose of the journey, Bagacay emphasized that their mission went far beyond delivering material donations, stating that they came to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their fellow educators and communities to assure them that they are not facing the daunting challenge of recovery alone.

The extensive mobilization effort was further strengthened by the active participation of the Philippine Elementary School Principals Association (PESPA) Tagum Chapter, led by President Shiela Grace Barbaso, along with officers Leonila Aรฑonuevo, Leah Gonzales, and Brigitte Asas, underscoring the education sector's collective commitment to service during times of crisis.

Deeply moved by the gesture, local education stakeholders expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the timely intervention, calling the mission a beautiful celebration of compassion and a powerful reminder that the city's core mantra remains true: โ€œWe are Tagum! Caring for Others is one of our main concerns.โ€

LGU-Tagum breaks ground on Multi-Purpose Gymnasium at Magugpo Pilot Central ES

Tagum City marked a new chapter in its commitment to education and community development as the Local Government of Tagum officially broke ground on the construction of a Multi-Purpose Gymnasium at Magugpo Pilot Central Elementary School (MPCES), Barangay Magugpo South, on July 2, 2026.

The ceremony gathered leaders and partners who share the vision of building stronger schools: Mayor Rey T. Uy, Congressman De Carlo โ€œOyoโ€ Uy, Board Member Jane Ang, and Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Alona C. Uy, CESO V, together with officials from the Department of Education (DepEd), the Local Government of Tagum, and Magugpo Pilot Central Elementary School.

Expressions of gratitude filled the program, especially for Congressman Oyo Uy, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and DepEd, whose steadfast support and collaboration made this milestone possible.

This project is more than bricks and steel โ€” it is a promise of safe, modern, and high-quality facilities where learners can grow, teachers can thrive, and the community can gather with pride.

As the ground is broken, hope is built. This gymnasium will stand not only as an infrastructure but as a living symbol of progress, partnership, and the cityโ€™s unwavering dedication to shaping brighter futures for every Tagumenyo child.
