The University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus (USeP TMC) deeply mourns the passing of Dr. Cesar A. Limbaga, Sr., a dedicated educator, distinguished leader, and steadfast pillar of academic and public service whose contributions helped shape the foundation of the Campus as it stands today.

Dr. Limbaga, Sr., served as the Campus Administrator of the former USeP Tagum Campus, where his leadership significantly contributed to the enhancement and development of forestry, agricultural and teacher education. These fields have since produced generations of professionals, educators, leaders, and advocates for sustainable development and public service.

His years of service were marked by a dedication to education and institutional development. The Campus today stands on the strong foundation built through the leadership and commitment of individuals like Dr. Limbaga, Sr. The programs, professionals, and communities that continue to flourish from these foundations serve as a lasting testament to the impact of his work and dedication.

As the USeP TMC community honors his life and service, we remember not only the position he held but also the institutional legacy he helped create, one that continues to influence the education, formation, and service of generations of USePians.

We extend our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers to the family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, former students, and all who mourn his passing. “Let us use whatever profession we pursue not only for personal success, but also for meaningful service to others and to our nation.” These are the words echoed from the Valedictory Speech of Ms. Jahn Alexah T. Ayala, Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Elementary Education.

The University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus (USeP TMC), Tagum Unit conferred degrees on its Class of 2026 during the University’s 47th Commencement Exercises for Graduate and Undergraduate Programs held on September 9, 2026, at the New Tagum City Hall Atrium in Barangay Apokon, Tagum City, with the theme: Building Dreams. Elevating Excellence. Empowering Communities.

The ceremony gathered graduates, parents and guardians, faculty and non-teaching personnel, academic officials, members of the USeP Board of Regents, and University Top Management led by USeP President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales Jr.

Also present was this year’s commencement speaker, Hon. De Carlo “Oyo” L. Uy, Representative of the 1st District of Davao del Norte.

The event formally featured the Presentation of Candidates for Graduation, led by USeP Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jeneifer C. Nueva, assisted by the Office of Advanced Studies Dean Dr. Eveyth P. Deligero, the College of Engineering Dean Dr. Joie D. Cataytay, and the College of Teacher Education and Technology Dean Dr. Mildin J. Retutas.

This was followed by the Conferment of Degrees by President Gabales, and the Investiture Rites, administered by USeP TMC Registrar Ms. Maria Leah P. Bangalao.

In his message, USeP President Gabales urged the graduates to use their education not only to advance their own careers but also to create opportunities and improve the lives of others. “When you become successful, bring others with you. When you gain knowledge, share it. When you find opportunities, create opportunities for others.”

He also challenged the graduates to use technology responsibly, emphasizing wisdom and compassion in exercising the greater power that comes with knowledge and professional competence. “When you achieve your dreams, remember that education becomes most valuable when it improves the lives of other people,” he added.

In his introduction of the commencement speaker, Dean Retutas highlighted Uy’s role in public service and leadership in Davao del Norte.

In his commencement address, Hon. Uy recognized the determination and sacrifices that brought the graduates to the commencement stage. He also acknowledged the parents and guardians who supported them throughout their academic journey. Hon. Uy emphasized the Filipino expression “puhon,” encouraging the graduates to look toward the future with hope while remaining committed to the work required to achieve their aspirations. He reminded the graduates that receiving their degrees does not mark the end of their journey but the beginning of a new chapter where they are expected to apply what they have learned in their respective professions and communities. Hon. Uy likewise echoed the call for graduates to create opportunities for others when given the chance.

The ceremony proceeded with the distribution of diplomas and the Valedictory Address of Ms. Jahn Alexah T. Ayala, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Magna Cum Laude and Class Valedictorian of USeP TMC, Tagum Unit. Ms. Ayala used the story of the ship Victoria, one of five vessels that sailed with Ferdinand Magellan in 1519, as a metaphor for the graduating class. Although Trinidad was considered the grandest, largest, and most expensive ship in the expedition, it was Victoria—a smaller vessel—that eventually returned to Spain and completed the circumnavigation.

For Ms. Ayala, the story reflected the graduates’ own experiences as students who faced uncertainties, academic pressure, financial difficulties, and personal struggles throughout their university journey. She urged her fellow graduates to recognize that their achievement was not measured by how grand their circumstances were, but by their ability to endure the challenges and continue moving forward. She concluded her address with a call to use their future professions for a purpose greater than individual achievement.

Part of her valedictory message was the Tribute to Parents, recognizing the families and individuals whose support helped the graduates complete their degrees.

The graduates then took the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Inang Pamantasan, led by Immediate Past University Student Government Vice President for Finance Ms. Yssa P. Azur. The ceremony also included the Induction to the Federation of USeP Alumni Associations, led by Hon. Julius P. Borbon, President of the Federation of USeP Alumni Associations, Inc., and Alumni Regent of the USeP Governing Board.

The event concluded with the singing of the Graduation Song and the USeP Hymn.

As the graduates of the University depart, their challenge is clear: to transform knowledge into action, opportunities into service, and personal success into a reason for uplifting others. For the Class of 2026 of USeP TMC, Tagum Unit, graduation is not the final destination; it marks the beginning of their journey. They have the oppurtunity to ensure that, no matter whetr their paths may lead, they bring others alongs.

During the 47th Commencement Exercises, Class Valedictorian Ms. Jahn Alexah T. Ayala, who graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Elementary Education program, delivered a powerful message celebrating the resilience, courage, and determination of the USeP TMC, Tagum Unit Class of 2026.

In her address, she emphasized that greatness is not determined by one’s background or resources, but rather by the strength of spirit to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.

[𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗] Twenty-three aspiring information technology professionals took a decisive step toward the workplace as the USeP College of Teacher Education and Technology (USeP CTET) – Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Program held its 3rd Pinning Ceremony for incoming fourth-year students on August 25, 2026, at the Farmer’s Training Center (FTC), USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus, Tagum Unit.

The ceremony represented more than just an academic tradition. It symbolized the students’ transition from years of classroom preparation to the challenges of professional practice as they began their practicum journey. This experience is intended to integrate technical knowledge, workplace discipline, and professional responsibility.

During the ceremony, 23 students were formally recognized and pinned, signifying their readiness to transition from theoretical instruction to the practical realities of the IT profession. The pin served as a tangible symbol of their progress and the responsibilities that accompany entering a professional environment.

BSIT Program Head Dr. Editha L. Hebron underscored the significance of the milestone, recognizing the students’ dedication, perseverance, and academic accomplishments as they prepare to take on greater challenges. Her message reinforced the ceremony’s central purpose: to celebrate how far the students have come while reminding them of the higher expectations that await them.

During the event, Ms. Geramae C. Madera, the CTET Practicum Coordinator, provided an orientation for the students on the policies, expectations, and goals of their practicum. She highlighted the importance of industry immersion in transforming academic knowledge into practical skills and encouraged the students to approach this experience with professionalism, accountability, and a strong willingness to learn.

The ceremony also showcased the University’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), particularly Target 4.4, which focuses on developing relevant technical and vocational skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. Through the practicum, BSIT students have the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world professional settings, thereby strengthening the connection between higher education and the evolving demands of the information technology industry.

With the pins now fastened and the classroom door opening to the professional world, the 23 BSIT students stand at the threshold of a new chapter. Their practicum will test their knowledge, challenge their thinking, and reveal how they respond when theory meets reality. The pin symbolizes the beginning of their professional journey, but what they create from this moment forward will define it. Armed with knowledge, sharpened by experience, and driven by purpose, the future IT professionals of USeP are ready to step forward, not just to enter the industry but to make their mark on it.

[𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗] Learning stepped beyond the classroom as students of the Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) program of the University of Southeastern Philippines College of Teacher Education and Technology (USeP CTET) completed their Supervised Industry Training (SIT), translating classroom knowledge into hands-on industry experience and taking another step toward becoming capable, confident, and work-ready Technical-Vocational educators.

The training brought together BTVTED students majoring in Animal Production (AP) and Agricultural Crop Production (ACP) in actual industry and agricultural research environments, where they encountered the demands, routines, and challenges of their chosen fields firsthand.

For the Agricultural Crop Production (ACP) students, training took place at the PICAZA Agri/Eco and Honeybee Integrated Farm, as well as the Dimpas Greentigrated Agri-Tourism Farm in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental. This experience allowed the students to immerse themselves in real-world farm operations, gaining practical insights into agricultural production and observing how technical knowledge is applied to productive, sustainable farming practices.

Meanwhile, the Animal Production (AP) students engaged in research and production at the Davao Region Central Experiment Station (DARCES) in Tugbok District, Davao City, and the Davao Commercial Agricultural Research Station (DaCARS) in Mati City, Davao Oriental. Their training provided them with firsthand exposure to animal production practices, agricultural research, and the operational realities that shape the sector.

The training culminated at DaCARS on August 7, 2026, and concluded at DARCES on August 17, 2026, marking significant milestones in the students’ immersion in the industry and their professional preparation.

However, the value of SIT extended far beyond merely completing the required hours. Every task accomplished, challenge confronted, and lesson learned contributed to the students’ professional development. Their experiences enhanced technical competencies while fostering the discipline, adaptability, confidence, and problem-solving skills essential for educators who will eventually train the next generation of skilled workers.

The initiative also supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), particularly Target 4.4, which aims to increase the number of young people and adults equipped with relevant technical and vocational skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. By placing students in real industry environments, the program reinforces the connection between education and the workforce, ensuring that learning remains relevant, practical, and responsive to the demands of the agricultural and technical-vocational sectors.

From the farm to the research station, students learned that expertise cannot be gained from textbooks alone. It is forged through experience, tested through challenges, and strengthened through practice. As these future technical-vocational educators return to the classroom, they carry with them more than just certificates of completion; they bring stories from the field, lessons from industry, and knowledge gained through hands-on experience. When their time comes to teach, they will not simply instruct their students on how to do the work; they will teach from experience, lead with confidence, and prepare the next generation to thrive in the world beyond the classroom.
