It also seeks to encourage participants to pursue careers in science and technology and contribute to the countryโ€™s pool of highly skilled S&T professionals.

The Climate Science Youth Camp (CSYC) is a flagship science promotion program of the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) that aims to enhance the interest of Filipino students in climate science and related fields. The program provides selected junior high school students and teachers with immersive learning experiences through a combination of lectures, h

Sa Karagatang Masigla, Kaya Natin ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒ

As we commence the celebration of the Month of the Ocean, may this serve as a reminder that our actions directly shape the health of our seas and the resilience of our coastal communities.

Let us continue to raise awareness, take part in on-the-ground efforts, and protect our coastal and marine ecosystemsโ€”to help build a stronger, more resilient nation anchored on a thriving ocean.

Hand-in-hand, we can create a difference!๐Ÿค

PHILIPPINES, ALWAYS WEATHER-READY!

In celebration of World Meteorological Day, we recognize the vital role of weather and climate science in keeping communities safe and prepared.

The Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA)continues to enhance its technologies for better weather monitoring and disaster response.

Through innovations like the AI-4RP Project for high-resolution forecasting, enhanced climate monitoring systems (AWS, Doppler radars, satellite data), the Impact-Based Forecasting and Early Warning System (IBFPh), and recent tools such as CliMap 2.0, PANaHON, iHeatMAP, and ten-day flood and weather forecasting systems, DOST-PAGASA equips Filipinos with accurate, localized, and timely information in times of calamity.

You learned how climate change is transforming our oceans from coral bleaching and rising sea temperatures to stronger, more destructive storms. To respond, we need science thatโ€™s smart, accessible, and ready to make a difference.

One such innovation is ARAICoBeH, or A Rapid Assessment Instrument for Coastal Benthic Habitats. Designed to strengthen reef monitoring in the face of climate change, this system allows scientists to gather data, study coral health, and detect the impacts of warming seas, bleaching events, and other climate-related threats โ€” all without the need for scuba diving.

This tool was developed by our very own Camp Director, Dr. Aletta Yรฑiguez, and Kuya Patrick Cadeliรฑa โ€” the same people who guided you through marine science during the camp.

Their enhanced ARAICoBeH system was recently recognized with the 2025 NAST Outstanding Scientific Paper Award.

Congratulations to our Camp Director, Dr. Aletta T. Yรฑiguez, and marine science facilitators Kuya Patrick โ€œKuya Terkโ€ Cadeliรฑa and Kuya Dale Patrick Atup for their outstanding contributions to marine science through their research papers, which recently won the 2025 Outstanding Scientific Paper Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST).

Kuya Terk and Dr. Alette's paper, โ€œMeasuring up to the Challenge: Enhancing the Capacity of the ARAICoBeH System by Enabling Coral Colony Size Measurement,โ€ highlights a low-cost but powerful tool that allows scientists to measure coral colonies more accurately, helping improve how we monitor and protect reef ecosystems, especially under the pressures of climate change.

Meanwhile, Kuya Dale is joined by Dr. Alette for the paper โ€œMarine Heatwaves and Their Impacts: Research Perspectives in the Philippines,โ€ a timely study on one of the most pressing climate threats to our oceans.

At the Climate Science Youth Camp, they are known as cool and inspiring facilitators but beyond the camp, they are dedicated scientists working for the people and our oceans.

Padayon, Doc Alette, Kuya Terk, and Kuya Dale. May you continue to inspire the next generation of climate leaders! ๐ŸŒฑ
