What to Do When an Earthquake Happens 💯👍

1. Before the Earthquake Strikes (Preparedness)

Know your Safe Spots: under sturdy tables, desks, or against interior walls.

Identify Exit Routes and Evacuation Areas outside buildings.

Secure heavy furniture and items that can fall.

Participate in regular earthquake drills.

2. During the Earthquake

Drop, Cover, and Hold On!

Drop to your hands and knees.

Cover your head and neck with your arms; if possible, get under a sturdy desk or table.

Hold On to the shelter until shaking stops.

Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy objects that could fall.

Do NOT run outside while shaking is ongoing (danger of falling debris).

3. After the Shaking Stops

Check yourself and others for injuries.

Be prepared for aftershocks they can be strong.

If indoors, evacuate calmly using designated exit routes if the building is damaged or fire breaks out.

Avoid elevators.

Listen to official updates on radio or emergency apps.

Help those who need assistance.

Stay away from damaged areas.

4. At School / Workplace

Follow your school’s earthquake emergency plan.

Teachers or safety officers should lead evacuation if needed.

Move quickly but calmly to designated assembly areas.

Do a headcount and report missing persons.

Wait for the all clear from authorities before returning indoors.

5. General Safety Tips

Keep emergency supplies accessible.

Know how to turn off gas, electricity, and water if safe to do so.

Avoid using open flames until safe.

Communicate with family and emergency contacts.

Lastly, Please keep this in your mind. Do not take the evacuation plan for granted it can save your life, so you should read it all the time. It’s wiser to be ready than to face nothing in a crisis.
