Literary Texts
By Penelope Suarez

A literary text is a type of text whose main objective is to highlight the poetic or aesthetic function of its discourse. so some literary texts also share features with other texts, such as description, exposition, or argumentation.

It is the most personal channel of the poet to carry out reflections or talk about various topics that are transcendent, or that show feelings of their own or shared by other human beings. They are texts that have many possibilities because they use various literary resources and, where appropriate, rhetorical figures.

Narrative literary texts
They are texts written in prose that describe and tell the action of a story. the action will be equally predominant because it is what characterizes a text that tells a story and advances the course of events. These texts are fictional, more or less realistic, fantastic, or of a specific genre.

Some types of literary texts are:
Legend
A reflective document in which a writer composes a story regarding their process and growth in developing different forms of literacy

Fable
This usually features animals that behave and speak like human beings, told in order to highlight human follies and weaknesses.

Short Story
Brief fictional prose narrative that is shorter than a novel and that usually deals with only a few characters.

Dramatic Literary Texts
This written literature has as its ultimate goal the representation and they lack a narrator; they use only dialogues and stage directions. dramatic texts are usually in prose; but throughout history these have been conceived in verse.

Dramatic Comedy
A type or genre of drama that is intended to make people laugh. However, humor is not the only quality that signifies comedy.

Dramatic tragedy
One of the most common and popular types of drama. As you can probably guess, tragedies tend to be sad.

Drama
Drama, to this day, remains a precious art of collaborative production and reception, performed at a theatre for an audience.

Using Context Clues
By Ronalisa Camarao

Use context clues to define unknown vocabulary in a reading. You will learn how to find the meaning of unknown words in a reading by using context clues. Context clues will expand your vocabulary by helping you guess the meaning of a word based on how it is used in a sentence or paragraph. This allows you to keep reading an article or essay without stopping to look words up in a dictionary, which saves you time while still allowing you to understand what you are reading.

There are two advantages to using context clues to expand your vocabulary and improve your reading comprehension.

First, if you skip over words you don't understand, the meaning of what you are reading becomes a little unclear. Depending on how many words you have to skip over or how important each word is in the passage, it can seem as if you have just looked at a bunch of words on the page and have no idea what they mean.

Second, if you go to a dictionary every time you don't understand a word, it is not only frustrating to repeatedly interrupt the flow of reading, but the word might actually have many ways of being defined. This could leave you a little closer to understanding what the word means but no closer to understanding what the author is trying to say.

Idiomatic Expression
By Gerald Palisoc

Idiomatic expressions or idioms are phrases which mean something different from the meanings expressed of the words that are part of it. Its meaning will only be understood when taken as a whole or when used in context. We cannot understand the meaning of the expression by the literal interpretation of its words.

They are symbolic and creative expression of ideas. They give force, color and vividness to our language. We use them to make our speech and writing more interesting. Often, we can infer the meaning of an idiomatic expression from context.

Like when you use the idiom ‘play by ear’, it does not mean that you will
play using your ear, instead, it actually means ‘to play music without looking at the notes’.

The following are commonly used idioms and their meanings.
➢ pass away means to die
➢ break off means to put an end
➢ cut down means diminish in amount
➢ stand out means to be distinguished
➢ hand out means to distribute
➢ break in means to train, tame, discipline
➢ put down means to record
➢ lay up means to save
