🗺️ DRAWING THE LINES OF OUR SOVEREIGNTY: Commemorating 10 Years of the 2016 Arbitral Award 🇵🇭

A decade ago, on July 12, 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration handed down a historic victory for the Filipino people. The Arbitral Award firmly established legal certainty under international law—invalidating expansive, baseless claims and confirming our exclusive sovereign rights to explore, conserve, and manage the vast wealth of the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

As the central mapping agency of the Philippines, the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) carries a profound and enduring duty: to give the law its visual, scientific, and geographical reality.

Our hydrographers, cartographers, and engineers systematically chart those victories out at sea—transforming legal text into the official maps that define our nation.

Today, NAMRIA celebrates with the entire nation on this historic milestone. We remain steadfastly committed to providing the public, our armed forces, and the international community with the most accurate, rigorous, and definitive reflection of Philippine territory and maritime zones.

🌊 SEA LEVEL HAZARD MONITORING UPDATE

Issued as of 0700H

Based on sea level observations conducted from 0400H to 0700H at the Basco Tide Station, Batanes, sea level conditions have returned to normal, with no unusual sea level changes observed. The previously monitored sea level disturbance associated with Typhoon Inday has subsided, and the observed sea level is now within the expected range of normal tidal variation.

With Typhoon Inday now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Sea Level Hazard Monitoring Team (SLHMT) will resume its regular sea-level monitoring activities while continuing to closely monitor the country’s tide-station network for any significant changes.

NAMRIA remains committed to providing timely, reliable, and science-based sea-level information to support public safety, disaster preparedness, and informed decision-making.

⚠️ Public Safety Reminder: For official weather forecasts, severe weather warnings, and explicit storm surge predictions, the public should always consult PAGASA, the country’s official weather bureau. The 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗼 𝗧𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 recorded a 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟬.𝟮𝟳𝟳 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝟮𝟳.𝟳 𝗰𝗺) during the latest monitoring period. This sea level disturbance is 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, which continues to influence sea level conditions in the area.

The recorded value represents the 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹, indicating a temporary fluctuation resulting from the typhoon’s influence and prevailing oceanographic and meteorological conditions.

🌊 SEA LEVEL HAZARD OBSERVATION REPORT | Super Typhoon Inday

The Sea Level Hazard Monitoring Team (SLHMT) of the NAMRIA Hydrography Branch – Physical Oceanography Division provides this public information report on recorded sea level conditions in relation to the passage of Super Typhoon Inday.

As part of NAMRIA's mandate to monitor physical oceanographic data, this report summarizes the actual observed water levels at the following tide stations during the specified monitoring period:
📍 Basco, Batanes
📍 Sta. Ana, Cagayan

📝 Oceanographic Observation Summary:
Based on the data recorded by our instruments during this period, 𝗻𝗼 𝗮𝗯𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀. The registered water levels remained strictly within the expected astronomical tidal ranges for these areas, and no significant tidal anomalies were detected.

This report serves as a factual record of observed sea levels during the covered timeframe for public information, coastal management, and navigation safety.

JUST HAPPENED: The National Hydrographic Summit 2026 concluded today at Shangri-La The Fort, Manila.

The high-level summit served as a platform for strategic dialogue and partnership-building among national and international stakeholders in support of the Philippines' hydrographic and geospatial priorities. The initiative reinforced the importance of integrated approaches to maritime governance, resource management, and sustainable development.

The National Hydrographic Summit 2026 is the third event in the HYDRO-CONNECT PH series, NAMRIA's flagship initiative to support the growth of the country's Blue Economy.
