Bagong Silang National High School (BSNHS) conducted a CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) awareness talk on July 17, 2025, as part of the National CPR Day Celebration.
The activity was led by Rodante M. De La Rosa, RN, Nurse II, who serves as the Senior High School District Nurse for Tagkawayan and Guinayangan, and was attended by Senior High School students.
The main goal of the talk was to teach students how to perform CPR, a life-saving skill used in emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest. This initiative is part of the schoolโs support for Republic Act No. 10871, also known as the Samboy Lim Law, which promotes CPR awareness in schools.
During the session, students were introduced to the S.A.G.I.P. steps, a simple and practical guide for emergency response:
S โ Survey the scene
A โ Assess the victim
G โ Get help
I โ Initiate compression
P โ Place AED pads if available
Following the discussion, Nurse De La Rosa provided clear instructions and closely guided students as they practiced chest compressions on their classmates. The hands-on activity emphasized the correct hand position, pressure, and rhythm needed to assist an unconscious person who is not breathing.
According to Nurse De La Rosa, these steps serve as a practical and effective guide during emergencies. He emphasized that having the right knowledge and confidence can make a significant difference, especially in situations where immediate medical help may not be available such as at home.
In addition to the CPR session, the school also conducted health checkups for 67 Senior High School (SHS) learners and medical assessments for 37 Junior High School (JHS) athletes, as well as other SHS athletes, to ensure they are physically fit for training and competitions.
Through this event, BSNHS demonstrated its commitment to health, safety, and to preparing students to help others when it matters most.
