What is your definition of a Virtual Assistant?

Over the past few months, I have found myself asking this question with more frequency among the VAs that I am speaking with during our interviews. It has been insightful to hear and read their responses.

Some have said a VA is “...like a secretary who helps people with their paperwork but they do it from their home office.”

Many others have answered with something to the effect of “...someone who uses their skills to complete the tasks given from their clients overseas.”

Most answers reveal a mindset of an employer/employee arrangement whereby the VA works “for” rather than “with” their client.

I suppose there is no right or wrong answer to this…since any VA or client has the right to operate in the manner they see fit?

Here is my definition:

“A virtual assistant is a business owner who supports another business owner in their quest to scale and grow their business - by sharing their unique talents, skills and abilities for completing clearly identified tasks - at an agreed upon fee.”

Yeah? No?
