𝐁𝐈𝐒𝐔 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 2026

Bohol Island State University (BISU) has earned a distinguished place in the national design landscape, securing the White Citation Award at the Good Design Award Philippines 2026 for its innovative technology, the KADLIT Firestarter.

Chosen from a competitive roster of 311 entries, the White Citation is a special honor reserved for exceptional new raw materials or noteworthy enhancements to existing ones. The award was formally accepted by the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, Dr. Ivy Corazon A. Mangaya-ay, together with Dr. Angeline B. Elegio and Ms. Belle Bianca T. Cabahug, who served as key innovators on the project.

This accomplishment underscores the collective ingenuity, perseverance, and high standard of excellence that define the BISU community, guided by University President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso. The university likewise conveys its sincere appreciation to the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) for its critical role in forging the linkage between BISU and the DTI Design Center of the Philippines — a partnership that proved instrumental in attaining this distinguished honor.

Acknowledgment is also extended to the Industrial Design Department, under the leadership of Chairperson Dr. Deceryl Gen T. Saligumba, within the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Industrial Design, headed by Dr. Dave J. Pojadas. Warm congratulations are further offered to the dedicated KADLIT research team — Ms. Belle Bianca T. Cabahug, Mr. Kelvin Christian D. Apayor, and Ms. Angelie Timon — alongside their steadfast adviser, Dr. Angeline B. Elegio, and all faculty and staff of the Industrial Design Department.

This recognition stands as a testament to the university's rising prominence in design and innovation. BISU continues to set its mark on the national stage, and the future holds even greater promise.
