BISU Earns Platinum Award and Three Special Citations at 2026 ITSO Presidents' Summit

Bohol Island State University (BISU) emerged as a top honoree at the recent ITSO Presidents' Summit and General Assembly, securing the prestigious Platinum Award alongside three Special Citation recognitions. The event, hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) in partnership with the Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO), took place on March 25, 2026, at Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City, Philippines.

Gathered under the theme “15 Years of Strengthening the Philippine TISCs: Innovation and Creativity Toward Sustainable Technology Transfer”, the summit celebrated the growing international stature of ITSO member institutions in the realms of intellectual property (IP) and innovation.

BISU’s Platinum Award places it among the top performers under the ITSO 2.0 Clustering Scheme. The university further distinguished itself by receiving Special Citation Awards for excellence in both Patent Application, Industrial Design , and Copyright Application. These accolades reflect the university’s success in surpassing rigorous performance thresholds, including the submission of at least 10 patent applications, 25 industrial design, and 50 copyright applications—a testament to its focus on safeguarding intellectual assets.

The awards were formally presented by IPOPHL Deputy Director General Atty. Ann Claire C. Cabochan, Director of DITTB, Dir. Ralph Jarvis H. Alindogan, J.D., and Assistant Director of DITTB, Engr. Chamlette D. Garcia. Receiving them on behalf of the university were University ITSO Director Dr. Angeline B. Elegio, and ITSO Technical Staff Mr. Allan P. Toston.

Behind this achievement lies a coordinated effort across the BISU community. University President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso and Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Dr. Ivy Corazon A. Mangaya-ay provided critical support, while the network of ITSO Campus Directors—including Dr. Maria Donna Fullido-Buates, Ms. Ghena L. Asucan, Dr. Jesszon B. Cano, Dr. Maria Danesa S. Rabia, Dr. Margie Vito-Avenido, Ms. Kathlyn L. Quion, the entire ITSO staff led by Ms. Alissa Mae B. Carias played key operational roles, and all the technology generators for their valuable research outputs.

BISU also acknowledged the essential guidance of IPOPHL Account Manager Ms. Remedios G. Cruz and expressed appreciation for the funding support provided by DOST-PCAARRD through the IPTBM and RAISE programs.

The recognition serves as both validation and motivation for BISU’s continued commitment to fostering innovation, protecting intellectual property, and supporting technology transfer initiatives that generate tangible societal impact. It reinforces the university’s trajectory as a growing force in innovation and technological development.
