𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨’ 𝙂𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 of Holy Name University welcomed 10 student journalists from 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 on March 25, 2026, for a 𝙍𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙤 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 at the Radio Laboratory, Scanlon Building.

Guided by Ms. Ma. Ligaya Torralba, PhD, and Ms. Ella Daquio Tuyac, the workshop featured scriptwriting, campus journalism roles, and a live radio simulation where students shared their journeys and insights to inspire aspiring journalists.

The activity concluded with closing remarks by Ryan Banac and the awarding of certificates.

The service-learning activity continued on March 24 at 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐬, 𝐈𝐧𝐜 in Brgy. Tip Tip, as participants applied their learnings in news journalism through hands-on writing exercises and guided practice.

With these strengthened skills, participants are poised to become more confident and responsible campus journalists—ready to produce accurate, impactful stories that can inform, inspire, and create positive change in their communities.

On March 23–24, five (5) BA Communication students conducted a two-day service-learning activity through a News Writing Workshop at Schola Societas in Brgy. Tip Tip.

Guided by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, 𝘿𝙧. 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝘽𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙤𝙣, and Journalism Principles and Practices instructor 𝙈𝙧. 𝙈𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙅𝙪𝙡𝙮 𝙅𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙩, the workshop introduced participants to the fundamentals of news writing and campus journalism.

Through this initiative, students developed their skills in crafting accurate, clear, and impactful news stories—empowering them to become responsible and effective student journalists.

LOOK: A quick visit to the Dampas Barangay Hall paved the way for a discussion of a possible collaboration between Brgy. Dampas and the BA Communication program of the university. Kag. Luis Alaba and Brgy. Secretary Ms. Faye, represented Brgy. Captain Marlou Añana who is currently in an official business.

The meeting highlighted how the School-on-the-Air Program, Tingog sa Kauswagan, can engage the residents and bring about knowledge and skill development through broadcast.

Today, Selected BA Communication students underwent a Radio Technical Workshop and Simulation in preparation for the upcoming HNU Days coverage.

The session was facilitated by Engr. Rodney Cohitmingao, who shared his expertise and hands-on skills in radio broadcasting to further equip our student broadcasters for live event coverage.

BA Communication 2 students in Broadcast-Based Distance Learning System course attended an orientation on the technical aspect of radio broadcast at DYJR FM station on January 28, 2026.

Engr. Rodney Cohitmingao, the university's radio laboratory technician, walked the students through navigating the technical board. He also gave tips on how to overcome jitters when on air.

The orientation is necessary before these students broadcast their schools-on-the-air and radio fora, both requirements of the course.
