THE Philippines has kept its standing as the world’s biggest supplier of mariners, based on the 2026 Seafarer Workforce Report issued by the Baltic and International Maritime Council (Bimco) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).

The report, considered the most comprehensive assessment of global supply of and demand for seafarers, noted that the country supplied 203,179 officers and 256,968 crewmembers, ahead of India, China, Russia and Indonesia.

Enrollment Update for Late Enrollees

As noted, some students did not follow the enrollment schedule for their year levels, as per BSA Memo No. 030-2026 issued on June 8, 2026.

In this regard, students who may not be able to complete enrollment within their schedule will be considered late enrollees. As such, they will be accommodated only on schedules still available and open. Thus, will not be assured to be given full load this semester.

The Deans of the College of Maritime Education and the College of Customs Administration are instructed to complete class scheduling on or before July 20 and refrain from creating additional schedules after said date without the approval of this office.

In celebration of Tagbilaran City's 60th Charter Day, please be advised that all City Government of Tagbilaran offices will be CLOSED on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

No sailor becomes skilled by sailing calm seas alone. The rough waters of college are preparing us for the ocean ahead. ⚓🌊

I have seen posts from some students in various PMI colleges page expressing their frustrations about their experiences in the institution. While everyone has the right to share their concerns and opinions, it is also important to remember why we chose this path in the first place.
College life is not easy. Challenges, pressure, deadlines, and frustrations are all part of the journey. However, many students continue to persevere because they have dreams and goals that are greater than the difficulties they encounter along the way.
I also hear complaints about faculty members giving assignments or sending announcements late at night, sometimes even past midnight. But have we ever considered the effort behind those actions? Many of our teachers work tirelessly to ensure that we receive the knowledge, skills, and training we need. Some of them spend countless hours preparing lessons, checking outputs, responding to concerns, and creating learning activities to help us become competent professionals. The fact that they are still working beyond regular hours reflects their dedication to their students and their profession.
At the same time, we are no longer children. We are college students and future professionals. Part of higher education is learning how to manage our time, prioritize responsibilities, and fulfill our obligations. In our future careers—especially in demanding professions—responsibility and discipline will be expected regardless of the circumstances.
PMI's slogan, "See the World for Free," represents the opportunities that await those who remain focused, determined, and committed to their goals. If we truly understand the meaning behind that vision, then the frustrations and challenges we face today become part of the preparation for a better future.
This does not mean that concerns should be ignored. Constructive feedback is important because it helps institutions improve. However, we should also recognize that not every difficulty is a sign of failure. Sometimes, challenges are simply part of the process of learning, growing, and preparing ourselves for the realities of our chosen profession.
Instead of allowing frustrations to define our college experience, let us use them as motivation to work harder, learn more, finish our degree, and achieve our dreams. Stay focused on your goals, appreciate those who are helping you learn, and remember why you started this journey in the first place.
Study well, finish your degree, and prepare yourself for the opportunities that lie ahead. Your future is built not by the frustrations you face today, but by how you respond to them.
