𝐁𝐈𝐎 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 | 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐄𝐍 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐩 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

In celebration of the International Coastal Cleanup 2026, the 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 (𝑩𝑰𝑶𝑮𝑬𝑵) joined fellow volunteers in coming together for a day of coastal cleanup and environmental action.

Armed with gloves, collection bags, and a shared commitment to our environment, our BIOGENies took part in removing waste from our shores. The activity offered a moment to reflect on the amount of waste that continues to find its way into our coastal ecosystems, and the responsibility we share in protecting them. 🌎

𝑩𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒖𝒑 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕. Through initiatives like this, BIOGEN continues to bring biology beyond the classroom, turning knowledge into action and encouraging each other to care for the ecosystems that sustain life.

𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒 | 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟖 🧬

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙏𝙖𝙮𝙡𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙛𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙗𝙪𝙜? 🐞✨

Meet 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗽𝗵𝘆𝗹𝘂𝘀, a newly described genus of plant-feeding true bugs in the family Miridae, named in honor of 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁!

The genus includes four species—𝙎. 𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧, 𝙎. 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙙𝙪𝙨, 𝙎. 𝙥𝙤𝙚𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎. 𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙚—whose names were inspired by Swift’s albums, song, and her name itself. Their pale yellow and red markings even resemble her signature blonde hair and red lipstick.

𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖𝙡𝙗𝙪𝙢𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙙𝙨, 𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚. 🐞🎶

As part of the 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐢’ 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 celebration, the 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 (𝑩𝑰𝑶𝑮𝑬𝑵) joined the 𝐊𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐭 in Maribojoc, Bohol, coming together with fellow volunteers to help restore and care for our waterways. 💙🌱

With paddles in hand and a shared commitment to the environment, our BIOGENIES took part in the river cleanup, helping remove waste while learning more about the surrounding ecosystem. They were introduced to several mangrove species in the area, including those of conservation concern, and gained a deeper appreciation of their role in protecting coastlines, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining healthy aquatic ecosystems. 🌿

The recently concluded 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐢’ 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, themed “𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐝𝒂𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒊’: 𝑭𝒂𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒏 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏 𝑯𝒐𝒎𝒆,” held last September 8–9, 2026, at Holy Name University, brought the community together in reflection, action, and care for creation. 💚🌱

As part of the Booth Fair, the 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 (𝑩𝑰𝑶𝑮𝑬𝑵) proudly took part by bringing our organization’s passion for biology, environmental stewardship, and service to our booth. 💙

Beyond the booth, our BIOGENIES also joined the tree-planting activity at the school, putting our commitment to caring for creation into action. From sharing ideas at our booth to getting our hands in the soil, each effort reflected our belief that environmental responsibility begins with participation. 🌱

We are grateful to everyone who visited our booth, joined the activities, and shared in the spirit of Laudato Si’. May we continue to turn our passion for life and nature into actions that nurture our common home.

𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚. 🌳

Bohol's famous 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 is often called a "dead forest," but not because the trees are lifeless. Since it's dominated by mahogany trees, fewer native plants, insects, and animals can thrive compared to a natural forest. Mahogany also releases chemicals that can limit the growth of some native species, resulting in lower biodiversity.

Nature's greatest masterpiece isn't abundance.
It's 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆. 🌏🌿

𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗧𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: 𝗣𝗢𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬

The Tagbilaran City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has reported poor air quality across Tagbilaran City, associated with transboundary haze from ongoing forest fires in Indonesia and prevailing southwest monsoon winds.

As of September 3, 2026, at 7:45 AM, the CDRRMO Command Center recorded a PM2.5 reading of 48.7, placing air quality in a cautionary zone and calling for increased health precautions.

With haze affecting air quality, everyone is encouraged to take precautionary measures. Keep updated through official advisories and monitor the latest air quality reports from the CDRRMO.

𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙛𝙨 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙𝙡𝙮. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙛𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙚. 🪸

When ocean temperatures become too high, corals expel the tiny algae living inside them that provide both nutrients and their brilliant colors. This phenomenon, known as coral bleaching, leaves reefs pale, weakened, and struggling to survive.

Sometimes, nature doesn't shout for help.
Sometimes... it simply fades. 🌊🤍

The recently concluded 𝐂𝐒𝐎-𝐑𝐒𝐎 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, last August 28, 2026, marks a meaningful milestone for the newly renamed 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 (𝑩𝑰𝑶𝑮𝑬𝑵), now officially recognized as a co-curricular organization of Holy Name University.💙

This recognition is more than a title—it is a reminder of our responsibility as Biology students and stewards of our environment and community. It marks a new chapter rooted in 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝, 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙚𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.
