The City College of Tagaytay organized a lively seminar titled "Labor Law Literacy and Job Readiness Skills" on July 8, 2025, which brought graduating students from various departments together for an interactive seminar on labor law literacy, and career readiness. The activity was conducted at the CCT Gymnasium, and invited government agency, and academic practitioners as guest speakers with the goal of equipping students with basic work knowledge.
The seminar began at 8:00 AM and commenced with a prayer, then the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. The opening address was delivered by Mr. Emerson T. Laurel, MSc, Dean of OSES, emphasizing the value of being prepared for the workplace and civic duty. Afterwards, the Labor Law was the first topic that was discussed by Ms. Melarie Joyce G. Diokno, CHRA, MBA, and facilitated an in-depth session that enlightened the participants about employee rights, wage policies, benefits, and workplace classifications. Ms. Diokno also highlighted that before entering the workforce, everyone should become familiar with their own rights and obligations. Then, the Pag-IBIG Fund and Social Security System (SSS) representatives provide more informative talks. Pag-IBIG officials provided information on membership privileges and application procedure, while Mr. Eduardo A. Montojo of SSS provided information on social protection services for new hires. The two institutions provided booths where they helped students with queries and registration. Also, honorable mention to Dr. Jennifer M. Abellana, Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA), who was given a tour of the gym, showing the seminar's significant contribution to academic and professional development.
In the afternoon sessions, the topics were more focused on career development for the graduating students, Ms. Rachelle C. Ambion, CHRA, MBA, CMMS, facilitated a resume workshop, providing tips on creating good, modern CVs that were well aligned to modern-day job postings. In another concurrent session, Ms. Carla Mae A. Moya, MBA, CHRA, revealed simple interview etiquette guidelines, ranging from behavioral norms to efficient answering strategies during the recruitment process. Lastly, the seminar ended with closing statements made by Mr. Eduardo Panulin, Vice President for Administrative and Support Services (VPASS), affirming the institution's dedication to empowering students. Mr. Emerson's announcements and his closing words of encouragement touched the hearts of all the people in the room.
The experience was not only enlightening but deeply empowering. Concluding that workplace success begins with knowledge, confidence, and preparation.
