To promote safer and healthier pregnancies, the Bachelor of Science in Midwifery of ACCESS Campus conducted its 2nd Buntis Congress at the Kapingkong Gym in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, on November 29.
The event gathered expectant mothers from Kapingkong, ages 13 to 40, who took part in discussions and activities designed to provide essential knowledge on prenatal care, maternal health, and preparation for childbirth.
The congress was held as part of the collegeโs continuing advocacy to strengthen community health awareness, with health professionals and CHS-Midwifery students leading informative and interactive sessions.
The event opened with remarks from Bea Margarette C. Bascon, President of the Midwifery Students Association, followed by a message of support from Maโam Sally J. Edza, RM, RN, MPH, Program Chairman for Midwifery, emphasizing that the congress aligns with the studentsโ curriculum and serves as a practical extension of their academic training and community engagement.
Furthermore, resource speaker Maโam Lorelie Resmundo, RMT, MPH, engaged participants through questions while discussing family planning, birth control, regular check-ups, and essential nutrients during pregnancy.
โThe essence of a woman is being a mother,โ Resmundo said, highlighting the importance of maternal roles.
On the other hand, the second resource speaker, Maโam Jennelyn L. Martinez, RM, BSM, MMHA, explained the importance of proper nutrition for pregnant women and the need to choose safe birthing facilities.
The program continued with a guest lecture from Dr. Herlyn B. Escleto, MD, FPGS, President of the Sultan Kudarat Medical Society, who shared additional insights and practical advice for the participating mothers.
One of the highlights was the โGandang Mommy Buntisโ pageant, which was won by Maโam Aisa L. Salugungan, who expressed her excitement and gratitude for joining for the first time.
โFirst time. Natatakot ako sa midwife namin kasi noong last hindi ako umattend. Sabi niya, โMag-attend ka ngayon.โ Kanina maaga rin akoโฆ Masaya po ako. I'm so amazed and satisfied,โ Salugungan said.
Earl Durado, Vice President of the Midwifery program, delivered the closing remarks, expressing appreciation for the participantsโ active involvement.
The event concluded with a photo opportunity and the awarding of prizes and certificates, marking the official end of the 2nd Buntis Congress.
