πŸ”₯ SMITians, Laging Handa! πŸ”₯

Safety is everyone's responsibility, and at SMIT, we are always prepared to take action when it matters most!

Under the dedicated leadership of our Safety Officer, Joeann Daza, and with the invaluable support of the Tacurong BFP, SMIT recently conducted a hands-on fire Hydrant safety drill.

Featuring the active participation of our NSTP Facilitators and Students, the activity focused on practicing how to properly operate the SMIT Fire Hydrant as a crucial first line of defense in the event of a fire.

The primary goal of this activity is to educate and empower everyone on-site, ensuring our community knows the correct steps to take during an emergency.

πŸ’ͺ Remember: Preparedness saves lives. Let's keep our campus safe, alert, and ready!

SMIT Campus Journalists Gear Up for Responsible and Future-Ready Journalism

Empowering the next generation of truth-seekers! πŸ“°βœοΈ

A total of 68 aspiring and young campus journalists from Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology, Inc. (SMIT) successfully completed a dynamic two-day Campus Journalism Seminar-Workshop last August 6–7, 2026, at the SMIT Function Hall.

Carrying the theme β€œTruth in the Digital Age: Strengthening Ethical Journalism and Digital Storytelling for Future-Ready Campus Journalists,” the training brought together dedicated writers and broadcasters from across grade levels:

🌟 14 members of The Gasera Editorial Staff

🌟 34 Junior High School students

🌟 19 Senior High School students

Building Core Skills for the Digital Age
The participants immersed themselves in intensive training across three major areas of campus journalism, handled by esteemed resource speakers:

News and Opinion Writing β€” Led by Don Joshua A. Gragasin, who guided students in mastering news values, crafting compelling leads, and upholding accuracy, responsibility, and critical thinking.

Photojournalism β€” Facilitated by Engr. Marlo Fel C. Paradero, who introduced the power of visual storytelling, teaching participants how to capture significant moments while maintaining context and ethical standards.

Radio Broadcasting β€” Trained by Raquel W. Siason, who focused on broadcast fundamentals, effective delivery, teamwork, and the responsible dissemination of information on-air.

Shaping Voices for the Future
More than just technical training, the seminar emphasized the vital role of young writers in promoting truth and ethical communication online. This initiative serves as a powerful launchpad to build a stronger pool of campus journalists at SMIT, preparing them for upcoming competitionsβ€”including the much-anticipated Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2026.

As the event concluded, participants were reminded of a central truth: Journalism is not just about writing storiesβ€”it is about seeking the truth, telling stories responsibly, and giving a voice to our community.

Kudos to all our campus journalists and mentors! Keep shining and soaring high, SMITians! πŸ¦…βœ¨
