TIPS FOR INCOMING HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT STUDENTS
Okay, since a lot of our new followers and members in our group HOSPITALITY PROBLEMS are asking for this, let me compile and repost these tips in one post.

1. GET TO KNOW HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT COURSE

4. KNOW YOUR SPECIAL SKILLS/DISCOVER YOUR TALENT
Our course is also based on skills so it's important to know your skills so that you can focus on it as you study Hospitality Management.
A hospitality management degree provides you with an in-depth understanding of the structure and operation of the hospitality sector and related industries. Now, there are really a LOT OF SKILLS you need to have in order to be successful in this industry. These are: skills and knowledge in people management, service delivery, leadership, finance and marketing, as well as identifying, understanding and responding to the needs of clients; other range of skills that are valued by many employers: analytical, critical and problem-solving skills, verbal and written communication skills, negotiation and teamwork skills, leadership and delegation skills, IT skills, the ability to network, and etc.

3 ANTICIPATION (GUEST) - to provide or do something for your guests before they ask you.
2 INITIATIVE (TEAMWORK) - to do a thing for your colleague even you are not asked to do it. You just did it to help.
1 SMILE (YOU) - This is the best uniform that everyone from hospitality should always wear. Its just free and simple yet it can change someones mood. If you smile you are showing interest.
To add, one should possess the initiative/common sense, PATIENCE, and delighting the guests with extra mile--PASSION.
Being a Hotelier is not about how tall or how good looking you are. It should be all about your interest on what you are doing, It should be the perseverance, dedication and passion on handling and making decisions for you to create an above and beyond memorable experiences for your guests.

5. KNOW WHERE YOU WANT TO BE IN THE FUTURE
Bes, andami nating pwedeng puntahan sa kursong ito, be it land, air or sea, wag na outer space, astronaut yun! From hotels, restaurants, bars, themed parks, to airline companies, cruiseships, as well as becoming a businessman/businesswoman or even educators.
Tanong mo sa sarili mo, what's the point? That you took this course? What do you want to be? Got your answer? Now be motivated and reach it.
6. MAG-IPON NG PERA
TF and other school fees--tumataas po ang mga ito. Ang pagiipon ng pera ay isa ring skill. You're lucky if you can have seminars about the importance of financial management because this will be one of your key to success. Unless, ipinanganak kang mayaman.. Lucky you! Sana lahat, diba?!
Anyway, para sa ating katamtaman lamang ang kakayahan sa buhay, medyo may presyo din po ang kursong ito. Help your parents, do not spend for unnecessary things. Kung malaki ang allowance mo, make savings a habit.
7. INVEST ON YOUR HEALTH, SELF CARE MAINTENANCE AND HAVE A PLEASING PERSONALITY
Pleasing personality is the aggregate of all the agreeable, gratifying, and likable qualities of an individual. It means those who come in contact with you are pleased to meet you and would like to remain in your company and it's always almost a requirement in every job. This industry requires you to be sincere, flexible, courteous, tolerant, respectful, funny and an all-around likeable person.
Dapat ba matangkad, maganda/maputi ang ngipin, payat, makinis, maputi etc para ma HIRE?
IMPORTANTE ay maging PRESENTABLE
But, kung alam mo na yung MEDYO kulang sayo (Nobody is perfect, anyway), if possible, TRY to IMPROVE or FIX while your studying.
Maitim? No problem. Being morena/moreno isn't ugly. Got insecurities with it? It's your choice to change yourself if you'll be happier with it anyway. Try whitening products, do research and be careful when trying one. Apply sunscreen everyday at gumamit ng payong. Maghilod! Most importantly, get that smooth skin.
Kulang sa Height? Mag vitamins, stretching at matulog ng sapat habang may panahon pa.
Hindi maganda ang ngipin? Magpabrace na hanggang maaga pa. Do not do DIY braces! See a legit Orthodontist. Your smile will be everything when you get a job soon.
Mataba? Payat? Work it out! Simulan na ang balanced and healthy diet. No to unhealthy food. Dagdagan lang ng disiplina ang sarili. Get 8 hours a day sleep. ๐ช๐ป
ENGLISH? It's important to know the language. We will be dealing with foreigners. How to improve? Read books. Practice your vocabulary. Study. Well. Study. Hard. Watch English movies. Read newspapers. Pocket your dictionary. Practice reading aloud. Write essays. If you can, have someone tutor you.
8. BE STRONG. START FOCUSING ON HEARTWORK
The feeling of hospitality can never be seen or touched, but always felt! Always bring the CONFIDENCE (sorry, this course is not for the faint-hearted) in yourself. If you're shy/has low self esteem, ngayon pa lang, try to improve it. Just do it.
Because one day, on your job, you may need to have this "plastic smile" and stand firm on your post. Walang personalan, trabaho lang. PATIENCE is everything. As well as POSITIVITY, on your thoughts and actions!
Most importantly, have FAITH and always PRAY. ๐๐ป
