FOUNDATION UNIVERSITY STRENGTHENED PARTNERSHIP WITH the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, NEGROS ORIENTAL DIVISION through SCIENCE TEACHING TRAINING

Foundation University continues to strengthen its commitment to quality education and community engagement through the collaborative efforts of the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences and the FUCE Graduate School in the professional development of Science teachers of the Department of Education, Division of Negros Oriental.

The 3-day live-in seminar-workshop entitled “GRIP the GAP: Empowering Science Teachers with Hands-On Mastery of Science Equipment for Deeper Student Learning” last August 7-9, 2026 at Southview Hotel, Banilad, Dumaguete City brought together selected Science teachers per district of the Division of Negros Oriental. The training hoped to enhance the participants’ content, knowledge, pedagogical approaches and classroom practices in teaching Science. The training immersed the participants to hands-on activities on the use of the laboratory equipment provided by the Department of Education.

This initiative reflects FU’s enduring commitment in supporting the professional growth of the teachers in advancing Science concepts and lessons in the basic education.

Facilitating the seminar and workshop sessions were Mr. Brando Piñero, Asst. Professor II of the College of Arts and Sciences and Dr. Antonia Gueyndoline Despojo, Professor and Asst. Dean of the College of Education. Both are also Professors of the FUCE Graduate School.

This collaborative engagement highlights FU’s role as a partner in educational excellence, making linkages between this institution and the Dept. of Education, Division of Negros Oriental stronger. By equipping science teachers with updated knowledge and effective instructional strategies, the university contributes in improving the quality of science education for the learners throughout Negros Oriental.

This activity supports United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education, by promoting lifelong learning opportunities and enhancing teachers’ capability and SDG 17 on Partnership for the Goals, through meaningful collaboration between FU and the DepEd, Division of Negros Oriental in advancing educational development.

Through this, FU reaffirms its mission of transforming lives through education, innovation and community engagement while empowering educators to inspire the next generation of scientifically literate and globally competitive learners.

Balugo National High School successfully culminated the DepEd ARAL (Advancing Reading and Learning) Program in partnership with Foundation University College of Education. Through this collaborative initiative, faculty members served as dedicated tutors as part of the department’s extension program providing academic support and learning interventions to help learners strengthen their foundational skills in reading, literacy, and other key learning areas. To celebrate the successful completion of the program, FUCE also distributed notebooks and ballpens to the completers as a gesture of encouragement and support for their continuing educational journey.

This partnership further advances our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting inclusive and equitable quality education for all learners, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening collaboration between educational institutions to achieve sustainable and impactful educational outcomes.
