The Bachelor of Elementary Education of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) joined forces with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to train the tutors and Youth Development Workers of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP). This initiative aims to enhance the teaching and facilitation skills of the volunteers to teach the struggling pupils in the selected Dep Ed schools in Leyte and Samar as well as mentoring the parents of the recipients.

Capability Building sessions for the tutors and YDWs took place on March 31 to April 4, 2025 at Eastern Visayas State University. The training featured esteemed speakers, each offering expertise in their respective fields. Ms. Elisyme Paculaba, Project Development Officer II, RPMO, provided an overview of the training objectives and content while Ms. Jirah Jamorawon, Community Coordinator, introduced the TBTP Tutors Starter Pack.

Notable educators also shared valuable insights. Dr. Laura B. Boller, Dean of the College of Education at Samar State University, discussed "Differentiated Instruction and Classroom Management." Dr. Leancel M. Homeres from EVSU delved into the "Pillars of Reading." Dr. Lourdes Matan guided attendees through the "Orientation and Discussion on the Guidebook for Tutors and Workbook for Learners," along with an overview of the Tara, Basa! English and Filipino Assessment Tools.

The program was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including DSWD Regional Director Ms. Grace Subong, EVSU Vice-President for Research, Development, and Extension Services Dr. Analyn C. Espaรฑo, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Lydia M. Morante, Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Jovito B. Madeja, and Director for Extension Services, Prof. Rustom Clemente.

Dr. Leancel M. Homeres served as the focal person for the TBTP Tutors, while Dr. Bryan H. Gervacio, Head of the EED Department, coordinated efforts for the YDWs. Several experts led training sessions for YDWs, including Mr. Gerico Sabalza and Ms. Eira May Flores, Regional Monitor, NPMO, who covered the "Youth Development Workers Starter Pack and Positive Parenting 101." Mr. Jose M. Parto, Social Welfare Assistant, CSWDO, discussed "Core Principles in Parenting Introduced in the Modules." Mr. Etelbert Conde, TBTP Focal Person, PLGU, Samar, facilitated a session on "Basic Facilitation."

This collaborative effort between EVSU and DSWD highlights a strong commitment to improving education and social development in the region. The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing both learners and educators, ensuring a brighter future for the youth of Eastern Visayas.
