Often, we hear about women's impressive multitasking skills, dependability, and dedication to their work and responsibilities. However, there is a downside to always being busy. When we become consumed by busyness, our priorities in life can shift, causing us to neglect the things that truly matter.
In the Bible, we see an example of this in the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10. Both sisters were hosting Jesus in their home, but while Martha was busy with preparations and cooking, Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His teachings.
Martha's actions were not wrong, but her priorities were misplaced. She was so focused on serving Jesus through her work that she missed the opportunity to simply be with Him and learn from Him. Mary, on the other hand, recognized the value of spending time with Jesus and prioritized Him above all else.
As women, we often feel the pressure to do it all and be everything to everyone. But Mary and Martha's example reminds us that it's not about being busy, it's about being purposeful in our priorities. We must choose the good part, just as Mary did, and make time for the things that truly matter - our relationship with God and with others.
“But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42)
Let's strive to shift our focus from multitasking to meaningful priorities. Let's follow Mary's example and choose to prioritize what truly matters in our lives. As it says in Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
