DSWD-8, CSWD Conduct Pre-Assessment for LNU Preparatory Learning Center Recognition

TACLOBAN CITY — In a significant step toward formalizing its educational standards, the Leyte Normal University (LNU) Preparatory Learning Center (PLC) underwent a comprehensive Pre-assessment Evaluation for city recognition on April 7, 2026.

The evaluation was conducted by the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) team and monitored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 8 through its Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Focal Person, Ms. Rizalyn Arante.

The activity commenced with a courtesy visit to University President Dr. Gil Nicetas Villarino, signaling the administration's support for the center’s accreditation goals.

The assessment focused on the seven areas in the Early Childhood Care and Development Guidelines on the Recognition and Permit such as: Area 1: Health, Nutrition, and Safety, Area 2: Physical Environment and Safety, Area 3: Interaction and Relationship Between Staff and Children, Among Children and Other Adults, Area 4: Staff Qualification, Staff Development, and Continuing Education, Area 5: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Area 6: Family Envolvement and Community Linkages, and Area 7: Leadership, Program Management and Support.
Moreover, the eight PLC teachers assessed on their performance and instructional capabilities are as follows: Jane Allyson P. Aruta, Ian Tyrone R. Barbosa, Leary B. Caboboy, Erika A. Epil, Mark B. Padis, Annabel P. Pepe, Alyzza B. Pingol, and Ashley Lyn B. Vergara.

Representing the CSWD evaluation team were Ms. Marlyn Dugos, Ms. Luz Aguillon, Ms. Mary Rose Guino-ohan, and Ms. Jo-ann A. Luna.

The proceedings concluded with a formal awarding of certificates of appreciation to the evaluators. The ceremony was led by the Business Income Generating Office (BIGO) Board of Management (BOM), represented by Dr. Solomon Faller, Vice President for Administration and Finance and BIGO-BOM Member; Mr. Orestes Ortega, Chief Administrative Officer and BIGO-BOM Chair; Mr. Cesar Blanco, BIGO Director; and Prof. Lorena Ripalda, PLC Manager.

This evaluation serves as a critical benchmark for the Preparatory Learning Center as it seeks to maintain high-quality early childhood care and development standards within the region.

In celebration of the 105th Founding Anniversary of Leyte Normal University, the PLC Nursery kids proudly showcased their amazing talent and enthusiasm during the field demonstration. 🦊🐻🌟

We are so proud of our Nursery students for their wonderful performance and for representing PLC with confidence and heart. Thank you everyone who supported and cheered for our young performers.

📢 EARTHQUAKE DRILL AT PREPARATORY LEARNING CENTER 🏫🌍

The Preparatory Learning Center successfully conducted an Earthquake Drill as part of our ongoing commitment to disaster preparedness and safety education. 🛑🧒👦

The activity was closely observed and supported by Prof. Jose Ismael S. Salamia, Director of the University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office. His presence reinforced the importance of instilling safety awareness and emergency response skills even at the earliest levels of learning.

Our young learners actively participated in the "Drop, Cover, and Hold" procedure, guided by their teachers and staff, ensuring everyone knew how to respond calmly and safely during an earthquake scenario. 👏

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. Salamia for his guidance and support, and to all the faculty and staff who helped make this drill a meaningful and educational experience for our pupils.

Preparedness starts early — and it starts with us. 💪🌐

📌 Last Saturday, we joyfully celebrated two meaningful milestones — our Family Day and the housewarming of our new building. 🏫✨
