Responding to the increasing frequency and severity of natural, biological, and human-induced disasters in tropical regions, this thesis presents a sustainable and modular framework for rapidly deployable post-disaster facilities. Designed to support both emergency response and transitional recovery, the proposal integrates climate-responsive design strategies, resilient construction techniques, renewable energy solutions, and modular architectural systems to create adaptable and scalable community facilities.
Through innovative research and design, the study demonstrates how architecture can go beyond shelter provision and become a catalyst for resilience, recovery, and sustainable community development in disaster-prone regions.
This recognition celebrates not only academic excellence but also the power of design to address real-world challenges and create meaningful impact for communities in need.

This thesis reimagines the St. Joseph Parish Social Hall in Barugo, Leyte as a disaster-resilient and inclusive community hub that promotes safety, accessibility, sustainability, and social cohesion. Through thoughtful interior design interventions, the project addresses critical concerns in evacuation facilities such as ventilation, lighting, spatial organization, and user comfort while integrating disaster-responsive and community-centered solutions.
Guided by the principles of resilience, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility, the proposed design incorporates enhanced ventilation systems, renewable energy strategies, modular furniture solutions, and flexible spaces that can support both emergency response and everyday community activities.
More than a design proposal, KAAGAPAY demonstrates how Interior Design can empower communities, preserve dignity during times of crisis, and create spaces that foster belonging, preparedness, and hope for future generations.
Congratulations to the researchers for this remarkable achievement and for exemplifying excellence in design research, innovation, and community-centered practice.
