PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur โ The wait is finally over as the historic Palarong Pambansa 2026 officially kicked off in a spectacular opening ceremony on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Hosted at the newly built, state-of-the-art Datu Lipus Makapandong Governor DO Plaza Sports Complex, this yearโs games mark a monumental milestone as Agusan del Sur hosts the prestigious national sporting event for the first time in its history.
Representing the pride of Eastern Visayas (Region VIII), the Golden Stingers have arrived with fire and determination, carrying the hopes of their home region.
Among the elite roster representing Region 8 are the student-athlete delegates from the Leyte Normal University - Integrated Laboratory School (LNU-ILS): Jacob M. Pestaรฑo and Ken Sebastian V. Grata.
With the week-long athletic meet running from May 24 to May 31, 2026, all eyes are now turning to the pool. The highly anticipated Swimming Competition proper is scheduled to take place from May 26 to May 29, 2026, at the complex's world-class Aquatic Center.
Pestaรฑo and Grata are geared up to show their athletic prowess against the best young swimmers from across the 18 regions of the Philippines.
Guiding the young aqua-athletes through this high-stakes national arena is none other than Kathy N. Garcia, who serves dual roles as the Region 8 Elementary Boys Assistant Coach and the dedicated LNU-ILS Sports Coordinator.
Under her leadership, the young Stingers are expected to showcase not only their speed in the water but also the discipline and sportsmanship cultivated back home in Tacloban City.
This year's Palaro, carrying the theme of regional unity and grassroots sports development, gathered more than 13,000 athletes to the province. Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago Cane Jr. welcomed the delegations warmly, reminding the youth that they are the very heart of the games.
As the swimming events begin, the LNU-ILS community stands firmly behind Pestaรฑo, Grata, and Coach Garcia.

TACLOBAN CITY โ Embodying the core values of Integrity, Excellence, and Service, the Leyte Normal University - Integrated Laboratory School (LNU-ILS) successfully celebrated its Moving Up and Graduation Ceremonies for the School Year 2025-2026. The event took place on May 19, 2026, at the HRDC Gymnasium, centering on the theme: "Filipino Graduates: Prepared to Lead with Competence and Character".
The joint ceremony honored the milestones of 60 Kindergarten completers, 41 Grade 10 completers, and 46 Grade 6 graduates. Under the leadership of LNU University President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino and ILS Director Prof. Lorena M. Ripalda, the young learners were formally confirmed and awarded their hard-earned diplomas and certificates of completion.
An esteemed roster of university officials, DepEd dignitaries, and parent leaders attended the event to witness the academic milestone. In attendance were Dr. Lina G. Fabian (Vice President for Academic Services) , Dr. Jonas P. Villas (Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation) , Dr. Solomon D. Faller, Jr. (Vice President for Administration and Finance) , and Dr. Joyce M. Magtolis (Vice President for Student Development).
The university deans and administrative chiefs were also present, including Dr. Billy A. Danday (Dean of the College of Education) , Dr. Myrna L. Macalinao (Associate Dean of the College of Education) , Dr. Evangeline V. Sanchez (Dean of the College of Management & Entrepreneurship) , Dr. Cleofe L. Lajara (Dean of the Graduate School) , Dr. Rommel L. Verecio (Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences) , Prof. Oreste M. Ortega, Jr. (Chief Administrative Officer for Administration) , Ms. Josisa C. Conchada (Chief Administrative Officer for Finance), and Atty. Divina Patty B. Sibay (OIC University and Board Secretary).
Representing the alumni and local education sector were Hon. Dan Stephen C. Palami (LNU Alumni Regent) and Dr. Generoso N. Mazo (University Alumni Director). The DepEd Tacloban City Division was represented by Dr. Jessica M. Abril (Education Program Supervisor - MAPEH) , standing in for Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sherlita A. Palma. The LNU-ILS General Parents-Teachers Association (GPTA) Executive Officers headed by GPTA President Dr. Marigold S. Maglinte and the entire ILS faculty also stood proudly alongside the academic community.
LNU University President, Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino, opened the ceremony by formally welcoming the guests, parents, and candidates, setting a proud and celebratory tone for the afternoon.
The Commencement Address: Following an introduction by ILS Director Prof. Lorena M. Ripalda, Guest of Honor Hon. Ma. Lumen P. Tabao, a former member of the LNU Board of Regents, delivered an inspiring commencement address. She was later awarded a Plaque of Appreciation by University President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino and Vice President for Academic Services Dr. Lina G. Fabian.
The gathering received an empowering message of inspiration from the DepEd Tacloban City Division, delivered by Dr. Jessica M. Abril on behalf of Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sherlita A. Palma.
Speaking on behalf of the batch, Aia Zoufeiya A. Uribe (Grade 6, With High Honors) delivered a moving tribute, reminding her peers that their success is a shared victory built on the foundation of support from mentors, family, and friends.
Mariecate Conzeph B. Militante (Grade 10, With Honors) delivered the Farewell Address, beautifully capturing the bittersweet reality of parting alongside the excitement of an unwritten future.
A heartfelt graduation prayer was led by Kindergarten completer Maria Bella C. Ambrosio, followed by the Loyalty Pledge led by Xeyara Jem A. Molvizar (Grade 10, With Honors), where the students manifested their commitment to their Alma Mater.
To cement their transition, Hon. Dan Stephen Palami, LNU Alumni Regent, officially inducted the completers and graduates into the LNU Alumni Association.
The audience enjoyed a series of heartfelt songs. The Kindergarten class charmed the crowd with "Iโm a Little Star" , the Grade 10 completers performed a reflective rendition of Eraserheads' "Minsan" , and the Grade 6 graduates sang a hopeful melody, "Iโll Always Remember You".

TACLOBAN CITY โ In a heartwarming display of faith and community spirit, the Leyte Normal University - Integrated Laboratory School (LNU-ILS) gathered for its Thanksgiving Mass on May 15, 2026, at the HRDC Alba Hall.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Kelvin Apurillo. Rev. Fr. Apurillo shared words to encourage the students, faculty, and parents in attendance to carry the lessons of the academic year forward.
Adding a profound layer of solemnity to the event were the LNU Philharmonic Singers. The university's premier choral group filled the theater with moving liturgical hymns, elevating the spiritual experience of the Normalista community.

TACLOBAN CITY โ In a grand celebration of academic mastery, leadership, and outstanding character, the Leyte Normal University Integrated Laboratory School (LNU-ILS) successfully held its annual Honors Day on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the LNU HRDC-Alba Hall.
This year's ceremony centered around the theme, "Filipino Graduates Prepared to Lead with Competence and Character".
To properly accommodate and celebrate the milestone achievements of the student body, the grand event was divided into two synchronized sessions: the morning session dedicated entirely to the Elementary department (from Kindergarten to Grade 6) starting at 7:30 AM, and the afternoon session dedicated to the Junior High School department (from Grades 7 to 10) starting at 1:00 PM.
Both ceremonies beautifully mirrored the same institutional flow and traditional protocol. Each session commenced with the proud, sequential singing of the Philippine National Anthem, a solemn opening Prayer, the ASEAN Hymn, and the LNU Hymn.
University President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino set the tone for both parts of the day by delivering a moving Welcome and Inspirational Messages that challenged the honorees to anchor their pursuit of success in the university's core values of Excellence, Integrity, and Corporate Service.
A major highlight of both programs was the formal distribution of medals and certificates for Academic Excellence, Subject Proficiency, and Service awards. Leading university officials took turns on stage to assist in awarding the students across the grade levels. Vice President for Academic Services Dr. Lina G. Fabian and College of Education Dean Dr. Billy A. Danday actively assisted during the early parts of the ceremonies.
As the awarding progressed, Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Solomon D. Faller, Jr., Graduate School Dean Dr. Cleofe L. Lajara, and other university officials joined the stage to commend the outstanding achievers. The morning and afternoon events also featured engaging multimedia presentations that showcased the studentsโ journey throughout the school year.
The ceremonies concluded with a Special Recognition segment to honor students who excelled in extra-curricular spaces, regional sports meets, and international conferences.
University leaders alongside ILS Director Prof. Lorena M. Ripalda presented awards to dedicated campus journalists from The Point school publication, the high-performing debaters of the Hinungdan Debate Society, and standout student-athletes who competed at the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet.
The recognitions extensively highlighted the continuous growth of the students as they advanced from district to division up to interschool competitions, showcasing versatile excellence across sports, journalism, culture and arts, the Math Olympiad, and various science competitions.
A major point of pride for the institution was the commendation of global excellence through international participation awards. These included students recognized for their global engagements in the iSchool Tra Vinh Vietnam and LNU-ILS International Cultural Exchange Program, as well as the Young Researchers of Natural Sciences (YRONS) and Nurturing Leadership Program. Furthermore, accolades were given for stellar international participation in the 16th Amity International Model United Nations 2025 and the prestigious RITS Super Global Forum 2026 held in Kyoto, Japan.
In addition to academic and global milestones, institutional values were highlighted through the presentation of the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) Service Awards to dedicated young student leaders.
Wrapping up the parade of achievements, the highest honors were given as the community stood to recognize the exemplary leadership of the Editor-in-Chief of the ILS The Point Publication and the Prime Minister of the ILS Hinungdan Debate Society, and the worth emulating traits of the ILS Model Student.
Following the awards, Dean Dr. Billy A. Danday delivered the closing remarks for both departments, sending the honorees off with a charge to remain compassionate change-makers. Submission and evaluation of admission requirements will be conducted on May 21, 2026, by the LNU-ILS Screening Committee at the Kindergarten classroom.

TACLOBAN CITY โ The Leyte Normal University (LNU) Integrated Laboratory School (ILS) recently concluded a high-energy, two-day intensive training titled "Amplifying Voices: Equipping the Next Generation of Broadcasters". Held at the LNU AV Studio on April 22-23, 2026, the workshop provided aspiring journalists with an intensive platform to master the art of radio broadcasting and scriptwriting.
Under the expert guidance of resource speaker Mr. Chris Anthony B. Gajelan, students navigated a rigorous curriculum. The first day focused on "The Radio Blueprint" and technical vocal training, while the second day challenged students with intensive scriptwriting and a final live simulation. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and the fast-paced reality of the broadcast booth.
A key pillar of the programโs success was the active involvement and dedication of the Integrated Laboratory School parents and learners. The organizers extended heartfelt gratitude to the parents for their "unwavering support" and collective contributions, which provided the necessary resources and encouragement for the students to excel.
Special appreciation was also directed toward the General Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA) officers, led by Dr. Marigold S. Maglinte, GPTA President.
