The UP Tacloban Department of Psychology is developing a proposed 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹-𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 program—envisioned to be the first of its kind in the region.

The program is being designed to prepare psychology professionals who can respond to both individual mental health needs and the realities of communities, with particular attention to culturally responsive practice, social justice, disaster and climate-related concerns, and community well-being.

LOOK | UP Tacloban Ugnayan ng Pahinungod conducted the Pagpahinungod Kita! Volunteer Formation Program on 16, 19, and 20 September 2026 at the Leyte Samar Heritage Center. The three-day activity began with a general orientation on the first day, followed by a two-day training workshop on Psychological First Aid (PFA) facilitated by five faculty members from the Department of Psychology.

In his welcome remarks, Chancellor John Paul T. Yusiong underscored the importance of working alongside the communities to better understand their needs and learn from their experiences in developing meaningful and effective solutions together.

Meanwhile, Ms. Floravel K. Ambas, a 2026 Gawad Pangulo para sa Natatanging Gurong Pahinungod awardee and UP Tacloban alumna, shared her experiences as a Gurong Pahinungod in Tawi-Tawi. She highlighted the value of ethical and culturally sensitive volunteerism in fostering genuine community engagement.

The Ugnayan ng Pahinungod holds an annual volunteer formation program to equip student volunteers with a deeper understanding of community engagement and to prepare them for meaningful, ethical, and culturally sensitive volunteer service that responds effectively to community needs.

UP Tacloban graduates place 9th and 10th, posting a 100% passing rate among first-time takers in the 2026 Psychometricians Licensure Examination.

The Public Management 298 students of the Department of Accountancy and Management (DAME), UP Tacloban, invite everyone to an insightful conversation on public accountability on 07 October 2026, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN, at the AS Conference Hall.

Anchored on the theme, “Shared Responsibility for Transparency, Integrity, and Good Governance,” the seminar will explore public accountability through two interconnected perspectives: its role as a social obligation and the role of private actors in advancing transparency, integrity, and good governance.

The seminar will feature two distinguished speakers:

In commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law, the UP Tacloban Sentro ng Wikang Filipino (SWF), in partnership with the Leyte Samar Heritage Center and the School of Humanities, invites the UP Tacloban community to participate in the Blackout Poetry Competition through "MGA GUNITA NG PAGBALIKWAS: Blackout/Erasure Poetry at Pag-alala sa Batas Militar."

Submission of entries started on 21 September, the date of the official declaration of Martial Law in 1972, and will run until 3:00 PM on 23 September. A culminating activity will follow at the Humanities Garden at 5:00 PM.

Traditional blackout poetry is a form of creative writing in which a writer transforms an existing text—such as an old decree, newspaper article, or official document—by erasing or blacking out portions of it, leaving only selected words visible to create a new poem. This process serves as a powerful reflection on censorship and historical revisionism. It conveys the message that even beneath layers of dark ink, the remaining words endure, symbolizing the memories of Martial Law victims and affirming that no regime or position of power can erase the truth.

| Mga Tanaga ng Hagkis at Hiraya Highlights UP Tacloban’s Buwan ng Wika Celebration

The UP Tacloban Sentro ng Wikang Filipino and the School of Humanities spearheaded the celebration of Buwan ng Wika from 24 to 28 August 2026, highlighted by the literary competition “Mga Tanaga ng Hagkis at Hiraya.”

The competition welcomed entries from Wika 1 students, who showcased regional languages- Tagalog, Waray, and Cebuano- through the tanaga, a pre-colonial Filipino poetic form composed of four lines with seven syllables each and a single end rhyme. UP Tacloban faculty members and administrative staff also participated through the Open Category.

Culminating the week-long celebration, participants recited their original tanaga during the Pagbigkas/Pagtanghal open stage held at the Leyte Samar Heritage Center on 28 August 2026. The literary event concluded with the announcement of winners across the different categories. Nathaniel Miralles secured First Place in the Waray category, followed by Charlote May B. Paet in Second Place and Ralph Michael F. Macabenta in Third Place.In the Cebuano category, Shawn James E. Veloso emerged as the First Place winner, while Queen Isabelle Dequino placed Second and Bennet Rois Sasan placed Third. For the Tagalog category, Grosz Zechariah A. Gacusan won First Place, followed by Hannah Sabite in Second Place and Ma. Jen Bartolay in Third Place. Meanwhile, Eura Shyne Pacheco was named the winner of the Open Category for Other Regional Languages for her tanaga written in the Minasbate language.

“Mga Tanaga ng Hagkis at Hiraya” is one of UP Tacloban’s initiatives to foster appreciation, promotion, and enrichment of literary writing in Filipino and regional languages, while celebrating the country’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.

Today, 21 September 2026, is the deadline for the submission of all UPCAT 2027 application requirements.

Applicants are reminded to ensure that ALL required documents have been submitted, including:

• Online Forms 1 and 2B
• Hard copy Certified True Copy of SF-10/Form 137 for Grades 8, 9, 10, and 11
• Online Form 2A confirmation by the applicant’s Grade 12 school official

Applicants who were unable to take the UPCAT will no longer have their UPCAT 2027 application processed.
