AIS Learner Leaders Rally for a Cleaner, Healthier, and Safer School

Armed not with shields and swords but with brooms, cleaning materials, and a shared sense of responsibility, learner leaders transformed an ordinary lunch break into a mission for health, cleanliness, and environmental protection as they led a schoolwide sanitation and clean-up drive on August 7.

30 Student officers from the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD), Red Cross Youth (RCY), Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), and Elementary School Learner Government (ESLG) joined forces during the lunchtime period to implement the Clean CR: Healthy School Initiative, Water Safety and Conservation Campaign, Canal Warriors Clean-Up Drive, and Oplan TAOB: Mosquito Homes Destruction. Under the supervision of teacher-advisers, the learners cleaned and disinfected comfort rooms, collected and segregated waste, and promoted proper hygiene practices across the campus.

“A cleaner campus is not built by chance but by learners who choose service over comfort and action over complacency," said Isabel Odan, School Head.

The activity, anchored on the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program and aligned with the goals of Brigada Eskwela, also included information drives on water safety and conservation. Participants cleared canals and drainage systems and conducted search-and-destroy operations targeting stagnant water and other potential mosquito breeding sites to help prevent dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

More than a clean-up campaign, the initiative showcased the power of youth leadership and volunteerism in creating meaningful change. By sacrificing part of their break time for community service, the learner leaders proved that a cleaner, healthier, and safer school begins with individuals willing to take action, inspiring fellow learners to become active stewards of their environment.
