Amando Cope College (ACC), represented by four Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students, secured 2nd Place in the RX Detectives Drug Awareness Seminar and Quiz Bee 2026 Season 3, held on September 17, 2026, at the Malinao Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (MTRC), Lagman Hall, Malinao, Albay.
Representing ACC were Angela Bibon and Claire Ann Barba, both Level 3 BSN students, and Juliana Palermo and Gilliane Gabriel, both Level 4 BSN students, with Mr. Amador Roy U. Piรฑera, MAN, RN, serving as their coach.
The event gathered six participating colleges in Albay: Amando Cope College, Ago Medical and Educational CenterโBicol Christian College of Medicine (AMEC-BCCM), Daraga Community College, Ligao Community College, Infotech Development System College (IDSC), and San Jose Community College.
The activity began with a drug awareness seminar, where Chief of Hospital III Dr. Fulbert Alec Gillego discussed the effects of drugs and the role of the Malinao Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in the recovery process. Following the seminar, the participating teams faced off in the quiz bee, testing their knowledge of drug-related concepts and issues.
โBeing part of the said program was truly an honor and a meaningful opportunity for me as a fourth-year nursing student, and it is an experience that I will always treasure. Competing against five well-prepared schools was both exciting and challenging, especially when we saw them reviewing their notes and materials before the quiz bee, which made us wonder, โCan we really compete with them?โโ Palermo said when asked about her experience in the competition.
Palermo described that the competition became more intense when their team found itself tied with the team that eventually claimed first place. She said the announcement of their second-place finish brought a mix of happiness and gratitude, particularly because the team had not expected to reach that position.
โWhen our group was declared second place, I felt extremely happy and grateful because we never expected to reach that position, especially after experiencing the nerve-wracking moment when we tied with the team that eventually placed first.โ
With Mr. Piรฑera as their coach, Palermo recalled his reminder to โenjoy every moment, win or lose,โ which she said encouraged the team to work together and give their best.
โOur coach, Sir Roy Piรฑera, reminded us to โenjoy every moment, win or lose,โ and that encouragement pushed us to give our best, work together, and fight for every correct answer while enjoying the competition.โ
Despite not securing the top spot, Palermo said she remained proud of the team's performance and the experience they shared as representatives of ACC.
โAlthough we did not get first place, I am proud that we represented our school with determination and teamwork, and what matters most to me is that we enjoyed the experience, challenged ourselves, and created memories that we will never forget.โ
The event combined drug awareness education with academic competition, bringing discussions on drug prevention and rehabilitation into focus among participating students.
