🌊 From Research to Policy: Shaping Bicol’s Blue Future! 🐟

The 2026 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑩𝒊𝒄𝒐𝒍 𝑨𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 (𝑩𝒂𝒓𝑴𝒂𝒏) 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 (September 25, 2026) brought together Bicol University Tabaco faculty, Fisheries students, partners from Sorsogon State University, Catanduanes State University and BFAR-V, and Local Government Units from Masbate, Albay, and Sorsogon to strengthen the link between fisheries research, education, and local policy.

Research findings on key aquatic resources, including 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒔, 𝑪𝒆𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒐𝒅𝒔, 𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒅𝒔, 𝑹𝒆𝒅 𝑩𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒚𝒆, 𝑺𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔, 𝑺𝒆𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒆𝒂𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔, were shared as a foundation for developing evidence-based policy briefs to support sustainable fisheries management and resilient coastal communities.

🎓 Beyond sharing research, the conference engaged our Fisheries students, giving them an opportunity to learn firsthand how scientific findings are translated into management strategies, policy, and community action, helping prepare the next generation of fisheries professionals and resource managers.

As fishing activity intensifies, understanding how fish populations respond is crucial not only to marine science but also to the communities whose livelihoods and food security depend on the sea. This discussion offers a closer look at the ecological consequences of fishing pressure and the importance of informed, sustainable fisheries management.

🌊 BU TABACO MAKES WAVES AT THE 19TH KUROSHIO SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM! 🔬🌏

Science, collaboration, and regional partnership took center stage as the faculty members and Research Assistants of Bicol University Tabaco actively participated in the 19th Kuroshio Science Symposium, hosted by University of Santo Tomas–Legazpi on September 2–3, 2026.

💡 From sharing research insights to engaging with fellow scientists, researchers, and academic partners, the BU Tabaco team joined the symposium in advancing meaningful conversations on the Kuroshio Current, marine ecosystems, fisheries, and the communities shaped by our seas.
