Isinagawa ng BSES-3rd Year Students and kanilang field activity na pinamagatang โIdentification of Macroinvertebrate Species in Mangrove Forestโ noong Disyembre 4โ5, 2025.

From the shores of Surigao to the global stage of World Urban Forum 13 in Baku, John Andrie Penados carried with him not only his own dreams, but also the voices and aspirations of the Filipino youth.
A 4th Year Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science student from Surigao del Norte State University, John Andrie stood proudly as the lone speaker from the Philippines during the Youth and Children Roundtable Discussion. In a gathering of global leaders, youth advocates, and development partners, he shared stories rooted in community service, environmental stewardship, and the lived realities of vulnerable sectors, including coastal and indigenous communities.
His presence in the international forum became a powerful reminder that young Filipinos are not only participants in nation-building, but active leaders shaping conversations on sustainable cities, climate action, and inclusive urban futures. Through his words, he brought the resilience, compassion, and determination of the Filipino people into a space where global decisions and collaborations are forged.
More than a student leader, John Andrie embodies a generation of youth who continue to rise beyond borders โ proving that even from a small community, one voice can echo across the world.

SNSU-OJT trainee Mr. John Andrie Penados had the valuable opportunity to participate in the MRFC Meeting and Mining Tour at Greenstone Resources Corporation in the Municipality of Tubod, Surigao del Norte, together with OJT participants from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region XIII.
Present during the activity were the Regional Director of MGB Region XIII, the Chief of MSESDD, MMT Leaders, and MRFC Members.
This experience provided firsthand exposure to the mining industryโs best practices, particularly in environmental rehabilitation and sustainable development initiatives.
Highlights of the tour included:
โข The nursery area, which stands as a symbol of transformationโonce an incident-affected site, now rehabilitated into a thriving space for growth and restoration.
โข A compelling butterfly-shaped development that reflects the journey from an unfortunate past into a transformative environmental success story.
โข Sustainable plant sourcing and waste management practices, including the conversion of waste materials into fertilizer.
โข Future-oriented walk paths and bike paths designed to promote environmental wellness and health-conscious activities.
โข Surface rehabilitation efforts through shallow plantation methods, recognizing limitations due to mined-out backfilled areas (โambakโ), where deep-rooted trees are not advisable to maintain slope and water stability.
The tour emphasized that responsible mining goes beyond extractionโit also includes environmental recovery, innovation, and creating spaces that inspire transformation from damaged landscapes into models of sustainability.
