The Value of Media and Information Literacy in Everyday Life

Before I took this lesson on Media and Information Literacy, I saw media as just a regular part of life—something that provided entertainment, news, and social connection. I didn’t think deeply about how media influences the way people think or how information is selected, edited, and presented. To me, it was simply about watching TV, scrolling through social media, or reading articles online without much concern for accuracy or intent.

After studying this subject, my perspective has changed significantly. I now realize that media is a powerful tool that can shape opinions, influence behavior, and even spread misinformation. It’s not enough to just consume content—we need to analyze, question, and verify it. Understanding how media works has made me more aware of bias, manipulation, and the importance of using credible sources. I’ve learned to be a more responsible and thoughtful media user.
