The SNSU Curriculum Development Office and the Instructional Materials Review Committee (IMRC) successfully conducted the Virtual University-Wide Faculty Consultation on the Proposed Revisions to the SNSU Policy on Instructional Materials Review and Certification last April 22, 2026, with over 50 faculty members in attendance.
The consultation gathered substantial comments and recommendations from faculty members across the University. Among the major concerns raised were the possible use of AI detection software, the need to retain human review as the primary basis for evaluation, the qualifications of subject matter experts, the use of external reviewers and co-authors, clearer guidelines on similarity index checking, and the request to use more constructive language in review decisions.
The consultation was also attended by Hon. Emmylou A. Borja, Faculty Regent to the SNSU Board of Regents, who shared valuable suggestions for the further improvement of the proposed policy. Also in attendance were several College Deans, including Dr. Merlyn L. Estoque, Dean of the Graduate School, Engr. Catherine P. Verallo, Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Virnille C. Franciso, Dean of the College of Computing and Information Sciences, and Dr. Louida P. Patac, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, among others, who likewise provided comments and recommendations during the consultation.
In the afternoon, the IMRC convened to discuss the comments gathered during the consultation. Physically present during the meeting were Dr. Alicia Z. Maghuyop, Dr. Unife O. Cagas, and Dr. Jerlou B. Sal, together with the other members of the Committee who had earlier expressed their comments and reactions during the Virtual Consultation. The IMRC agreed to adopt all relevant comments and integrate them into the revised draft of the policy.
Certain issues that required a formal decision by the IMRC were resolved through Google Form voting among the Committee representatives.
The revised policy shall next undergo legal review before its eventual presentation to the Board of Regents for approval.
