"Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Environment and Livelihood Program"

From planning to action, from waste to opportunity, and from service to lasting impactβ€”this is the story of Project SEL. πŸ’šβ™»οΈ

The Second Semester of Academic Year 2025–2026 was filled with meaningful initiatives as the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration – Community Extension Services (CES) of St. Jude Thaddeus Institute of Technology continued its commitment to environmental protection, sustainable livelihood, and community empowerment in partnership with Barangay Lipata, Surigao City.

Throughout the semester, our dedicated CES students, under the guidance of Ms. Jeany V. Senarillos, LCB, transformed plans into reality through a series of impactful activities that strengthened our partnership with the community and promoted environmental responsibility.

✨ Second Semester Highlights:

🌿 Conducted meetings and planning sessions with CES leaders and students to ensure the successful implementation of Project SEL.

🧹 Several Clean-Up Drives at Purok Perlas, Nueva Extension (Barangay Taft), Surigao City Pilot School, Cabrera Altres National High School, and Barangay Lipata, instilling environmental awareness and encouraging volunteerism among students and community members.

♻️ Implemented the Plasticraft Project: "From Plastic Waste to Sustainable Livelihood," where CES students collected recyclable plastic materials, produced plastic rings, and skillfully wove them into beautiful, eco-friendly bags.

πŸ›οΈ Successfully conducted three batches of bag selling, showcasing how recyclable waste can be transformed into valuable products that promote sustainable livelihood while supporting environmental conservation.

πŸ—οΈ Continued the development of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) by collecting sellable scrap materials, delivering construction supplies, welding and assembling structural components, and constructing the new MRF in Barangay Lipata. This initiative reinforces the community's capacity for proper waste management and environmental sustainability.

πŸŽ‰ A Meaningful Culmination on May 24, 2026

All of these efforts culminated in the successful Project SEL Culmination Program held at Panubigon Gym, Barangay Lipata, bringing together CES students, faculty members, Barangay Officials, SK Officials, and our valued beneficiaries to celebrate a year of dedication, service, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.

Project SEL is more than just a Community Extension Programβ€”it is a commitment to creating lasting change. It has shown that through collaboration, innovation, and volunteerism, waste can become opportunity, communities can become more resilient, and every individual can become a catalyst for positive change.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our 112 dedicated CES students, Ms. Jeany V. Senarillos, LCB (CES Facilitator), our CES Coordinator, Ma’am Arjane C. Altizen,RCrim, MSCrim-CAR ,Barangay Captain Hon. Josemedy G. Aborque, the Barangay Council of Barangay Lipata, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Officials, our beneficiaries, buyers, partner institutions, and everyone who supported and believed in the vision of Project SEL.
