Manjagao NHS Receives New Classroom Building

MANJAGAO, Surigao City — March 27, 2026 — A new two-storey building with four classrooms was officially turned over and blessed at Manjagao National High School (MNHS), marking a significant step in improving the school’s learning environment.

The event opened with a Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m. presided over by Rev. Fr. Jaime Duero, MSC, with the church choir and lectors leading the liturgical celebration. The formal turnover ceremony followed at 10:00 a.m.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Marilou B. Dedumo led the turnover alongside Surigao City Mayor Pablo Yves Dumlao II and Vice Mayor Alfonso S. Casurra. Also present were Hon. Arnold Go, Dr. Faith Elumba, Hon. Carl Casurra, Hon. Pepe Consigo, and SK Federated President Jenely Edulsura.

Representing the District Engineer, Engr. William Alcantara attended as Project Inspector, while Engr. Dela Sierra, Resident Engineer, represented the contractor, Amalgo Construction.

Barangay officials of Manjagao, PTA officers, teachers from Manjagao National High School and Manjagao Elementary School, members of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), students, parents, and other guests also witnessed the event.

“This new building is a symbol of our commitment to provide better and safer learning spaces for our students,” Dr. Dedumo said during the program.

Mayor Dumlao highlighted the importance of accessible education, stating, “We continue to support projects like this to ensure that every learner has access to quality education despite challenges.”

After the turnover, Mayor Dumlao, Vice Mayor Casurra, and Dr. Dedumo led a tree-planting activity beside the new building to promote environmental sustainability.

Despite the school’s remote location and challenging terrain, key officials attended the ceremony, showing strong support for education in far-flung communities.

The newly completed facility is expected to ease classroom congestion and provide a more conducive learning environment for MNHS students, benefiting both present and future learners.
