"I am." is the shortest sentence in the English language.
Many would argue otherwise. What about "Go." or "No."? They are shorter by both a letter and a word. While "Go." as an imperative and "No." as an answer both express a complete thought, they are not complete sentences.

A complete sentence has a subject and a predicate. In case of "I am.", it has both a subject (which is I) and a predicate (that is, am). Go means "you should go". And No means "my answer is no". Both of which are relatively longer than I am.
