Kick-off Celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month 2026
July 8, 2026. Surigao Provincial Gymnasium, Brgy. Washington, Surigao City

In celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month 2026, the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte formally launched the kick-off program on July 8, 2026, at the Surigao Provincial Gymnasium, Brgy. Washington, Surigao City. The activity was spearheaded by Hon. Robert Lyndon S. Barbers, Provincial Governor of Surigao del Norte, together with the Local Chief Executives, representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs), national government agencies, uniformed services, academic institutions, and other partner stakeholders.

Carrying the theme, "Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas," the activity highlighted the collective commitment of government agencies and partner institutions to strengthen disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, recovery, and resilience through collaboration and shared responsibility.

Representing Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) were Romel C. De La Cruz, PhEdD, University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (UDRRM) Focal Person, and Mr. Earl Christian A. Borja, Assistant UDRRM Focal Person. Both actively participated in the program, particularly during the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony, signifying the University's continued partnership and support for disaster risk reduction and management initiatives in the province.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding strengthened inter-agency collaboration among government offices, educational institutions, and partner organizations, promoting a unified approach to building safer, more resilient, and disaster-ready communities.

The participation of Surigao del Norte State University reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to advancing disaster resilience through education, research, community extension, and active collaboration with government and non-government stakeholders. Through its engagement in this significant event, the University demonstrated its dedication to supporting programs and initiatives that promote the safety, preparedness, and well-being of the people of Surigao City and the entire Province of Surigao del Norte.

The successful conduct of the kick-off celebration served as a testament to the collective efforts of all participating agencies and institutions in fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience, ultimately contributing to the realization of a safer, stronger, and more disaster-resilient community for all.
