Receiving your cap, badge, and pin is undoubtedly one of the most meaningful milestones in your journey as nursing students. As you officially step into the role of student nurses, a new chapter begins. Clinical duties are on the way, and the journey will not always be easy. There will be long days, challenging cases, moments of doubt, and times when you may question whether you are good enough. But whenever you feel lost or discouraged, remember why you started. SPUS Nursing Students stepped into their role as responders during the 42nd Bonok-Bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival on September 9, 2026, at the Provincial Sports Complex (Grandstand) in Surigao City.

In collaboration with other participating response teams and agencies, the student nurses assisted in attending to the needs of festival participants and helping maintain a safe environment throughout the event.

Guided by Clinical Instructor Mr. Vincent Louis P. Duncano, RN, MAN, the students worked alongside fellow responders, putting their knowledge and skills into practice in a setting beyond the classroom and clinical area.

The event gave the student nurses a firsthand experience of responding to a large public gathering—requiring them to stay attentive, work with other responders, and be ready to assist when needed.

For the student nurses, it was another day of learning through service, this time in the middle of one of Surigao City's biggest celebrations.

SPUS Nursing Students served as responders during the Street Dancing Contest of the 42nd Bonok-Bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival on September 9, 2026.

With a 6:00 AM assembly time, the students were stationed along the street dancing route: Cathedral, McDonald’s, Bilang-Bilang, and Primehub, ready to provide assistance and help ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

Through this experience, our future nurses were able to apply their skills, practice teamwork, and serve the community during one of Surigao City’s biggest cultural celebrations.

From the classroom to the community, SPUS Nursing Students continue to learn, serve, and care.

A little wiser, a lot more inspired.

September 3, 2026 was one for the books! The Alumni Lecture Series at the Amphitheater, Newsite, St. Paul University Surigao brought together stories, experiences, and lessons from those who once sat where we are now. 💙

Turns out, the best lessons aren’t always found in textbooks, they’re sometimes shared by people who’ve already been through it.

Good stories. Real experiences. Fresh inspiration. What a day!

𝗦𝗣𝗨𝗦 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗟𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

SPUS Nursing Students stepped into action as they assisted during the DLC Competition, working alongside the City Health Office (CHO), Philippine Red Cross, PDRRMO, and other local response agencies.

The activity brought together students and emergency responders in a shared effort to ensure the safety and well-being of participants throughout the competition. From providing assistance on-site to supporting emergency response efforts, the nursing students gained valuable experience in working as part of a coordinated response team.

Beyond the classroom, the experience gave our future nurses a glimpse of what it means to stay ready, work together, and respond when it matters most.

Another experience, another opportunity to learn—and another reminder that nursing goes beyond the four walls of the hospital.
