Benchmarking Activity on Central Kitchen Establishment

On September 3, 2026, personnel from the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office (SDO) of Dinagat Islands conducted a benchmarking activity at Anao-aon Central Elementary School, SDO Surigao del Norte, in relation to the establishment of a Central Kitchen. The activity was also attended by personnel from the Regional Education Support Services Division (ESSD) to oversee the activity.

The benchmarking activity aimed to gather relevant insights and best practices on the management and operation of a Central Kitchen. Sharing of ideas on the daily kitchen workflow, food preparation and distribution processes, inventory and supply management, food safety and sanitation practices, and overall operational procedures.

Through this activity, the participants gained valuable knowledge and practical strategies that may be adopted and contextualized in the establishment and implementation of Central Kitchens within the Schools Division of Dinagat Islands. The activity likewise provided an opportunity for collaboration, exchange of experiences, and sharing of innovative practices among education personnel, further strengthening the implementation of the School-Based Feeding Program and other nutrition-related initiatives.

In celebration of Sight Saving Month this August 2026, the School Health Personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Surigao del Norte, in partnership with Dr. Annabeth Fortaleza, conducted vision screening, eye examinations, and refraction services for learners and school personnel during the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD) School Caravan.

The activity aimed to promote eye health awareness and facilitate the early detection of visual impairments that may affect learning performance and overall well-being. Through the provision of free eye care services, learners and personnel were given the opportunity to have their vision assessed and receive appropriate recommendations for further management when necessary.

This initiative highlights the commitment of DepEd Surigao del Norte and its partners to safeguarding the health and wellness of learners and personnel, ensuring that everyone has access to essential eye care services and support for better educational outcomes.

On Aug. 4, 2026, the Department of Education (DepEd) Surigao del Norte, through its Health Personnel, successfully conducted the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD) School Caravan at Toledo S. Pantilo MNHS

The activity aimed to promote the health and well-being of learners by providing free health services, including tooth extraction, urinalysis, blood typing, vision screening, health examination, cholesterol, uric acid and blood sugar testing, medical consultation, and health education. These services enabled learners to receive essential health assessments and interventions that support their academic performance and overall wellness.

The OKD School Caravan reflects SDO of Surigao del Norte commitment to ensuring that learners and personnel have access to quality health services and information, contributing to a healthier and more productive school community.
