SAINT OF THE DAY! Saint Bernard│ Feast Day: August 20

Saint Bernard of Clairvaux was a French Abbot, theologian, and doctor of the church, born in 1090. He founded the Cistercian abbey of Clairvaux in 1115 and became known for his deep love for God, his preaching, and his writings. He was a strong defender of the faith and a peacemaker in the church. He died on August 20, 1153.

Saint Bernard became holy through his deep love for God, prayer, humility, and dedication to the church. He lived a life of simplicity and discipline and encouraged others to seek Christ above worldly desires. His strong devotion to Jesus and Mary helped him become a model of Christian faith and spiritual leadership.

Saint Bernard teaches us that true greatness comes from humility, prayer and love for God. As a seminarian his life reminds us to make God the center of our lives. And as a Seminarian I can follow his example by becoming more prayerful, humble, disciplined, and willing to serve others.

Dear God,
Through the example of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, teach me to love you more deeply. Help me to grow in humility, prayer, and service. Give me the courage to follow your will and to share your love with others. Through the intercession of St. Bernard, guide me in my vocation and help me remain faithful to you. Amen.

SAINT OF THE DAY! Saint Ezequiel Moreno y Diaz │ Feast Day: August 19

Saint Ezequiel Moreno y Díaz was Born in April 1848, in Alfaro Spain. He was ordained as an Augustinian recollect priest in Manila in 1871. After that, he served in the Philippines as a missionary for about 15 years and later became a bishop in Pasto, Colombia. He spent his life serving God and helping others especially towards the people who are poor and suffering. He died on August 19, 1906, and he was canonized as saint by Pope John Paul II in 1992

Saint Ezequiel Moreno y Díaz became holy because of his faith, deep devotion to God, and serving others. He remained faithful towards God even when experiencing difficulties and illness . His profound love for Jesus and willingness to serve others showed his commitment to living a holy life.

Saint Ezequiel Moreno y Díaz teaches us that we should always trust God even when we experience difficulties in our lives and continue to serve others with love and compassion. We can follow his example by praying regularly, helping those in need, and to remain faithful to God.

Last August 15, 2026, the Notre Dame Archdiocesan Seminary Community hosted the Formands' Day 2026 under the theme "Here I am, Send Me!" (Isaiah 6:8). The celebration began with the Eucharistic Celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Followed by a day of fellowship and friendly competition featuring Basketball, Volleyball, and various board and table games. Together with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate communities---JOMI, POMI, and NOMI---the celebration became a joyful gathering of fraternity, sportsmanship, and shared mission.

SAINT OF THE DAY! Saint Clare │ Feast Day: August 11

St. Clare of Assisi was born in 1194 in Assisi, Italy. She came from a wealthy family but chose to give up her riches to live a life devoted to God. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, she founded the Order of Poor Ladies, now known as the Poor Clares. She spent her life in prayer, serving others, and living in poverty. She died on August 11, 1253, and was canonized as a saint in 1255.

St. Clare became holy through her deep love for God, humility, prayer, and dedication to a simple life. She willingly gave up wealth and comfort to follow Christ. She also remained faithful to her beliefs even when she faced difficulties.

St. Clare teaches us that true happiness does not come from money or material things. We can follow her example by being humble, praying regularly, helping others, and putting God and our faith first.

“Love God, serve God; everything is in that.”

Dear God,
Thank You for the example of St. Clare. Help me to have a strong faith, a humble heart, and a generous spirit. Teach me to love You and serve others each day. May St. Clare guide me to live with courage, kindness, and devotion.

SAINT OF THE DAY! Saint Lawrence │ Feast Day: August 10

St. Lawrence was a deacon of the Church of Rome in the 3rd century. He served under Pope Sixtus II and was responsible for caring for the poor and managing the material goods of the Church. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Valerian, Pope Sixtus II was martyred. Lawrence was later arrested and ordered to surrender the treasures of the Church. Instead, he presented the poor, the sick, and those in need, saying that they were the true treasures of the Church. Because of his faith and refusal to deny Christ, Lawrence was martyred around 258 A.D.

St. Lawrence became holy because he remained faithful to Christ even when his life was threatened. He served the poor with love and humility and understood that serving those in need was a way of serving Christ Himself. His courage during persecution showed that his faith was not only something he believed but something he was willing to live and die for.

The life of St. Lawrence teaches us that true Christian greatness is found in service, not in wealth or position. We can follow his example by helping the poor, being generous with what we have, and remaining faithful to our values even when it is difficult. His life also reminds us that the people who are often ignored by society are precious in the eyes of God.

"Sheltered under the name of Jesus Christ, I do not fear this pain, for they do not last long."

St. Lawrence, faithful servant and courageous martyr, pray for us that we may have a strong and faithful heart like yours. Teach us to serve the poor with love, to share what God has given us, and to remain faithful to Christ even in difficult times. May we see Jesus in those who are in need and serve them with humility and compassion. St. Lawrence, pray for us. Amen.

The Notre Dame Archdiocesan Seminary and Junior Oblates of Mary Immaculate came together for a Back-to-Back Concert entitled "Harmony for Humanity", held this evening at the SouthSeas Complex. SAINT OF THE DAY! Saint Dominic │ Feast Day: August 8

Saint Dominic, also known as Santo Domingo de Guzmán, was a Spanish priest and the founder of the Order of Friars Preachers, known as the Dominicans. Born around 1170 in Caleruega, Spain, he dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel and helping people return to the truth of the Catholic faith. He lived simply, traveled great distances on foot, and encouraged his companions to spread the Gospel through preaching, prayer, study, and service. His religious order was officially approved in 1216 and soon spread throughout Europe.

Saint Dominic became holy through his deep love for God, his dedication to preaching, and his humble life of prayer and service. He understood that preaching Christ required not only words but also a life that reflected the Gospel. He was known for his wisdom, courage, and gentleness, always seeking to guide others with truth and love. He trusted God completely and willingly gave his life to the mission entrusted to him.

Through the life of Saint Dominic, we learn the importance of prayer, truth, and service. He teaches us to know and share our faith, to live simply, and to treat others with kindness. His life reminds us that we can preach the Gospel not only through our words but also through our actions and the example we give to others.

"How can they hear without someone preaching?"

Father, You called Saint Dominic to proclaim the Gospel through prayer, study, and service. Through his intercession, give us the courage to share our faith, the wisdom to follow Your truth, and the humility to serve others with love. May our words and actions lead others closer to You. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

FRAMES OF FORMATION | Feast of St. John Mary Vianney

Today, the Notre Dame Archdiocesan Seminary community celebrated the Feast of St. John Mary Vianney, the parton saint of all parish priests. The celebration began with the blessing of the cemetery of priests, honoring those who faithfully dedicated their lives to the service of God and His Church. The community then gathered at the seminary quadrangle in front of the statue of St. Vianney for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Commemorating the Holy Curé de Ars, St. John Mary Vianney. Happy Priests' Day!

St. John Vianney l Feast Day: August 4

St. John Mary Vianney, the celebrated Curé d'Ars, was a French Catholic priest renowned for his tireless ministry in the confessional, his deep asceticism, and his radical transformation of a remote parish. Born on May 8, 1786, in Dardilly, France, he overcame severe educational struggles to be ordained in 1815 and spent his life guiding souls until his death on August 4, 1859. He is the patron saint of parish priests and confessors.

Saint John Vianney became holy through his extreme dedication to hearing confessions, deep humility, and a life of constant prayer and fasting. Known as the Curé d'Ars, he spent up to 16 hours a day counseling soul and lived a very simple life to serve God and others.

The values that we can learn from the story of St. John Vianney is his persistence and charity to others. His persistence is visible in his seminary life. Despite the struggles he faced academically, he did not quit. This reminds us that we often look at problems negatively, yet like Vianney we should not surrender. His vocation made him stronger, so we should also treat ours the same way. Also, his charity to others is very visible in his life as a priest. He spent 16 hours a day administering confession, which helped many people in his community. Even though this leads him to being uncomfortable, demons always disturb his sleep for him weak and cannot act confession, he still fights. Vianney is a truly persistent and charitable priest.

O Saint John Vianney, once again we are living in a time of upheaval. There is much evil in the world. Obtain for me the grace to persevere in my faith and draw me closer to God. May I walk with the Lord and trust in Him all the days of my life. Obtain, through your intercession, an increase in vocations and a priesthood full of love of God with men who are able to bring the world to Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL REFLECTION | 18TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Matthew 14:13-21

“Trust God with What You Have”

“What is the most precious thing that you can give to God?” Is the question that I harnessed in today’s Gospel. Jesus withdrew to a quiet place after he heard the death of John the Baptist. When a large crowd followed Him, He responded to them with compassion by healing the sick and miraculously feeding more than five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, leaving everyone satisfied.

This Gospel reminds us that Jesus always sees our needs. Even though He was grieving, He chose to provide our needs before His own. His love and compassion reached beyond His personality so that all of us could experience His care. Through His example, we are reminded to look beyond ourselves and to be attentive to the needs of others around us.

Like the disciples, I sometimes focus on what I do not have. I think that I am incompetent, my talents are too small, or I am not enough to help others. Because of this, I often believe that we cannot make a difference.

But Jesus did not ask the disciples to find more food. He simply told them to bring what they already had. What seemed small in their eyes became more than enough in His hands.
The same is true for us. God is not asking us to have everything. He only asks us to offer what we have with faith. Through a simple word of encouragement, a helping hand, a listening ear, or a sincere prayer may seem small, but God can use these simple acts to bless many people.

So, let us stop focusing on our limitations and start trusting in God’s power. When we place our lives, our gifts, and even our weaknesses in His hands, He can do more than we could ever imagine.
