CES launches Catch-up Fridays
Calaoaan Elementary School launched the Catch up Fridays last January 12 in accordance with the Department of Education's National Reading Program objectives. Under the direction of their teachers, all pupils actively participated in the Drop Everything and Read program.
The students were given the freedom to select and read materials on their own, uninterrupted, in an effort to improve their reading and critical thinking skills as well as to increase their interest in setting aside time for reading. Additionally, many techniques and exercises were employed, including paired reading, guided reading, story telling, deciphering vocabulary words from the reading material, identifying the primary idea, answering comprehension questions and drawing their favorite part of the story they read.
