| 𝗨𝗠-𝗥𝗜𝗖 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗨𝗠 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗼𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗜𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The University Of Mindanao(Official Page) through its Research and Innovation Center's UMasenso Hub and ITSO sent UM Digos Research and Innovation Center - RIC to AMBIT 2026 (Advancing and Mobilizing Breakthrough Innovations) held on August 27, 2026, at Caraga State University, Butuan City. Three teams participated with the different competitions and among them, Project ProWESS (Provincial Workforce Enabling System thru Scholarships) emerged as second-place winner in the Commercial Video Competition, bringing recognition to UM’s continuing efforts to develop technology-driven solutions that respond to real-world challenges.

Representing ProWESS was Mr. Eduard L. Pulvera, Project Staff and QMO Assistant Manager of UM Digos, with assistance from Mr. Arthurbonn Mapula, DTPs Office Assistant. Developed under the DOST PCIEERD GODDESS Program and led by Dr. John Vianne B. Murcia, ProWESS is a digital platform developed by UM Digos College in partnership with the Provincial Capitol of Davao del Sur and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). The project brings together a mobile application for scholars and a web-based platform for government, creating a more connected and efficient system for scholarship administration and workforce-related services. Its recognition at AMBIT 2026 underscores how innovations developed within the academe can move beyond the laboratory and become practical solutions for public service.

Joining ProWESS in representing UM were Project e4PsMap, represented by its System Programmer Mr. John Raven Manulat, and Project SINAG, represented by Mr. Ralph Ian Noynay. The e4PsMap, joined as Poster Entry, is a digital visualization and data dashboard system designed to help local governments monitor the compliance rates and progress of beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). The said project is also led by Dr. John Vianne B. Murcia funded under the DOST-PCIEERD GODDESS Program. Meanwhile, SINAG—SGLGB Insights Nurturing Assessments and Governance, joined as Pitching Entry, is a web-based assessment and analytics application designed to assist barangays in assessing their performance under the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB), with its initial application supporting the barangays of Sulop.

Together, the three entries showcased UM’s growing portfolio of digital innovations for governance, social protection, and community development.

The UM delegation was also accompanied by the UMasenso and Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) teams, represented by Engr. Jetron Adtoon, the Manager of the Hub, and Mr. Kit Benjo Dumancas, ITSO's Technical Assistant, respectively. Their participation reflected the collaborative ecosystem behind UM’s innovation initiatives—where project developers, technical personnel, technology-transfer advocates, and institutional support units work together to move ideas toward utilization and impact.

More than a competition, AMBIT 2026 became a platform for UM to demonstrate that breakthrough innovations are not measured only by technological novelty, but by their capacity to address actual needs and create meaningful value for communities and public institutions.

ProWESS’s second-place finish is therefore more than a competition result. It is a testament to the potential of research, technology, and innovation to become solutions that are felt beyond the university. Through ProWESS, e4PsMap, and SINAG, UM Digos continues to demonstrate a clear direction: developing innovations that do not remain as ideas on paper, but are transformed into working systems that help government, communities, and people navigate real challenges.

At AMBIT 2026, UM Digos did not merely participate—it brought with it a portfolio of innovations that showed how research and development can become technology in action, governance made smarter, and innovation made relevant to the people it seeks to serve.

Project FEAS continues to strengthen its research capacity as Ms. Khareen Culajara, the Lead Writer of the project, mentors student research assistants on systematic literature review (SLR) last August 26, 2026, equipping them with essential competencies as the project moves into the scholarly writing phase

The mentoring session introduced the student research assistants, who are from the Psychology Program, to the systematic process of identifying, screening, evaluating, and synthesizing relevant scholarly literature. Ms. Culajara guided the students through key components of conducting an SLR, including the formulation of research questions, development of search strategies, application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, critical appraisal of studies, and synthesis of evidence.

The training forms part of the ongoing research process of Project FEAS, which is now venturing into the writing of two research articles that serve as foundational scholarly outputs at the beginning of the project. The articles are intended to establish a comprehensive evidence base and provide the scholarly grounding necessary for the succeeding stages of the Development and Psychometric Validation of the Filipino Eco-Anxiety Scale (FEAS).

For the student research assistants, the activity provides an opportunity to learn research methodology while directly contributing to the project's scholarly work. Under Ms. Culajara's mentorship, they are being trained not only to locate and organize relevant studies but also to critically examine evidence, identify research gaps, synthesize findings, and translate the literature into rigorous academic writing.

The initiative reflects Project FEAS' commitment to making research capacity building an integral part of project implementation. Rather than treating students merely as research support, the project provides them with opportunities to participate in actual research processes—from literature searching and evidence synthesis to scholarly writing—allowing them to develop competencies through hands-on experience and mentorship.

Project FEAS, or the Development and Psychometric Validation of the Filipino Eco-Anxiety Scale, is funded by the Department of Science and Technology–National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) under its Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program. Through this support, the project advances not only its scientific objective of developing and validating a Filipino-context instrument for eco-anxiety but also its broader goal of nurturing research capabilities among emerging researchers.

As the team begins developing its first two research articles, the systematic literature review mentoring underscores an important foundation of scientific inquiry: meaningful research begins with understanding what is already known, recognizing what remains unexplored, and building new knowledge upon a carefully established body of evidence.

The Project FEAS (Development and Psychometric Validation of the Filipino Eco-Anxiety Scale in Shoreline Communities in the Davao Region) team of the UM Digos College - UMDC conducted an initial project meeting and orientation for selected undergraduate students who will serve as Student-Research Assistants (SRAs) under the project’s personnel services team.

Held as part of the project’s initial preparations, the meeting provided an opportunity for the FEAS team to align expectations, clarify roles and responsibilities, and establish the groundwork for the project’s upcoming pre-implementation meeting with the Department of Science and Technology–National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) Central Office.

The orientation also introduced the undergraduate students to their prospective roles in the implementation of Project FEAS. As Student-Research Assistants, they are expected to work closely with the research team in various scholarly and project-related activities while gaining firsthand experience in the conduct of an externally funded research project.

More than providing personnel support, the project seeks to make the students’ involvement a meaningful research capacity-building opportunity. Through their engagement, the students will be exposed to research processes, technical activities, data-related tasks, research ethics, documentation, and other scholarly practices relevant to the project.

The FEAS team emphasized that the students’ participation is envisioned as a learning-and-research partnership, where they can contribute to the project while simultaneously developing competencies that may support their future academic and professional pursuits.

The initial meeting marks an important step toward the formal implementation of Project FEAS. With the research team, student-research assistants, and project personnel working toward a shared direction, the University of Mindanao continues to demonstrate its commitment to developing not only research outputs but also the next generation of researchers.

As Project FEAS moves toward its pre-implementation phase with NRCP, the team looks forward to building a collaborative research environment where scientific inquiry, mentorship, and student development converge toward generating meaningful evidence on eco-anxiety and its implications for shoreline communities.

UM Digos College (UMDC) marked another significant milestone in its research and innovation initiatives as Project FEAS (Filipino Eco-Anxiety Scale) received regional support from the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI for its community engagement and expert validation activities.

The endorsement was granted by the Regional Development Council XI following the recommendation of the Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Council (RRDIC) XI, recognizing the project's relevance and potential contribution to addressing emerging environmental and mental health concerns in the Davao Region.

Project FEAS aims to develop and validate a culturally responsive instrument that measures eco-anxiety among Filipinos, particularly in shoreline communities that are increasingly exposed to the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. Through community engagement and expert validation, the project seeks to ensure that the assessment tool reflects local realities while meeting rigorous scientific standards.

The regional endorsement affirms the significance of the project's objectives and highlights the confidence of regional development and research stakeholders in its potential to generate evidence that can inform policies, programs, and interventions related to climate resilience and psychosocial well-being.

The support from RDC XI also strengthens collaboration among government agencies, academic institutions, and community partners, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the psychological impacts of environmental change. It further underscores the role of higher education institutions in producing research that directly responds to regional and national development priorities.

With the endorsement of RDC XI upon the recommendation of RRDIC XI, UMDC's Project FEAS is poised to advance its community-based activities and expert validation process, bringing together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders in developing a scientifically sound and locally relevant eco-anxiety scale for the Filipino context.
