𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗦𝗨 Office of the Student Regent

On, February 20, 2026, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), together with Gawad Kalinga Sorsogon, successfully conducted an Orientation and Training for the Barangay Walang Iwanan program.The event was attended by 30 participants, including dedicated student leaders, Sorsu Extension Office staff and faculty, the NSTP Director, and the Coordinators for each Sorsu campus, Sorsogon City Campus, Castilla Campus, Magallanes Campus, and Bulan Campus of Sorsogon State University.
Dr. Ana Cristina G. Fortes, Director of Extension Services and Training at SorSU, delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the shared goal of promoting volunteerism. She beautifully reminded everyone that “Volunteerism doesn’t require time it requires the heart.”
Sir Jm Batalla, Gawad Kalinga Representative for Area Development, introduced the mission and vision of Gawad Kalinga and clearly explained the purpose of the Barangay Walang Iwanan initiative, helping participants gain a deeper appreciation of this unified effort.
Ms. Maurien Jean Luna, Head of the GK Core Team Sorsogon, shared heartfelt personal experiences as a Gawad Kalinga volunteer. She spoke of the meaningful moments that have kept her committed to the cause, affirming that Gawad Kalinga’s service is truly compassionate rooted in genuine love and dedication to ending poverty.
The participants engaged in a short but meaningful activity, where they shared their own ideas and perspectives on volunteerism and community involvement.
Ma’am Mary Grace L. Pante, Area Team Leader for the Bicol Region, provided valuable insights into Gawad Kalinga’s communities, programs, and services. Her presentation helped deepen the participants’ understanding of how these communities are organized and supported.
Sir Alcantara Al, NSTP Director of SorSU, presented the university’s adopted communities, along with the ongoing projects and services being implemented there.
The orientation concluded on a powerful note, marking not only the end of the training but also the beginning of a stronger partnership, empowered communities, and a future where truly. Walang Iwanan!

SORSOGON CITY — Following a comprehensive review of current institutional priorities and academic requirements, the University Student Council (USC) officially announces that it will not proceed with the proposal to shift classes to an asynchronous modality for Monday, February 16, 2026.

This decision comes after rigorous consultations with university administrative offices and a careful evaluation of the collective sentiments expressed by the student body across the Bulan, Castilla, Magallanes, and Sorsogon City campuses.

𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
The Council recognizes the desire for flexibility; however, several critical factors necessitated the maintenance of the current synchronous schedule:

• Institutional Accreditation: The University is currently in a vital preparation phase for the upcoming ISO Certification/Audit. This milestone is essential for ensuring our systems meet international standards of excellence.
• Academic Continuity: Due to previous class suspensions, the University is committed to maximizing remaining session days to fulfill the prescribed curriculum and prevent further "Academic Congestion."
• Scheduled Laboratory & Campus Activities: Pre-existing departmental assessments and campus-wide events require physical presence to be successfully executed without compromising the semester’s timeline.

𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽
The USC remains steadfast in its advocacy for student well-being. However, true leadership requires recognizing when institutional integrity and long-term academic goals must take precedence. We encourage all students to remain focused and committed to their academic responsibilities during this high-stakes period.

We request the Supreme Student Councils (SSCs) of each respective campus to assist in the dissemination of this information to ensure all student constituents are properly informed.
