The College of Technology (CoT) of Sorsogon State University (SorSU) demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement as it welcomed a distinguished delegation from Can Tho University (CTU), Vietnam, on November 26, 2025, for a hands-on Laboratory Integration Program. This activity forms part of the ongoing implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SorSU and CTU, further strengthening collaborative efforts in research, extension initiatives, and academicโcultural exchange.
The delegation, headed by Dr. Trแบงn Thanh Hรนng, Vice Rector of CTU, included student representatives Lรขm Nhรฃ Trรบc, Trแบงn Thiแปn Diแป
m Quแปณnh, Trแปnh Vฤn Thแบฏng, Nguyแป
n Phรกt Ti, and ฤร o Thร nh Nhรขn.
Upon arrival, the delegates were warmly received by College of Technology Dean Orlando Doncillo and the CoT faculty, who ensured that the visit to the college was smooth, engaging, and intellectually enriching.
The academic component of the visit was facilitated by the Electrical Technology and Electronics Technology Departments, whose faculty expertly prepared the laboratories, guided demonstrations, and supported the delegatesโ interactions with SorSU students.
The formal program began with the playing of the Vietnamese and Philippine National Anthems, followed by Opening Remarks delivered by Area Chair Sir Alexander Jaynario. In his message, he emphasized the importance of intercultural academic exchange and the shared pursuit of technological advancement.
CTU delegates were then integrated into three mixed teams alongside SorSUโs 4th-year Electrical Technology students. The groups rotated across three specialized laboratory stations, each facilitated by faculty from the Electronics and Electrical Technology Departments:
Mechatronics
Instrumentation and Process Control
Motor Control
These stations provided hands-on, collaborative activities that allowed both Filipino and Vietnamese students to exchange knowledge, strengthen technical competencies, and experience SorSUโs dynamic laboratory environment.
The visit concluded with a brief awarding ceremony, during which certificates and tokens of appreciation were presented to the CTU delegates in recognition of their active participation and the growing partnership between the two institutions.
SorSUโs warm accommodation of the CTU delegation signifies yet another milestone in the universityโs internationalization initiatives. Through the leadership of Dean Orlando Doncillo, the guidance of Area Chair Sir Alexander Jaynario, and the support of the Electronics and Electrical Technology faculty, the College of Technology continues to uphold its commitment to hospitality, innovation, and global academic collaboration.

Students and faculty from the Electrical and Electronics Technology programs of the College of Technology rolled up their sleeves yesterday to remove, clean, and repair electric fans across several classrooms. The activity aimed to restore proper airflow and maintain a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
More than a simple maintenance task, the initiative turned into a practical application of the studentsโ technical expertise. Guided by their instructors, participants demonstrated how skill, initiative, and teamwork can power up both equipment and a shared sense of responsibility within the college community.

โI am JONEL DIAZ, and this is my story!โ
Born and raised in Bacon, Sorsogon, Jonel grew up in a humble home where every peso mattered and every dream required courage. His father was a jeepney driver and his mother a homemaker, together, they taught him resilience, faith, and the value of hard work.
After high school, Jonel tried his luck in Manila as a contractual salesclerk, but deep inside, he longed for something more lasting. His motherโs words became his turning point:
โAnak, mag-aral ka ulit. Education will open doors no job contract ever could.โ
He returned home to Bicol and, despite facing the pain of losing his father, pursued his studies at Sorsogon State College (now Sorsogon State University) under the College of Technology, taking up Bachelor of Technology, Major in Food Technology.
College life was not easy, It was a test of endurance and faith. Yet, Jonel persisted. His OJT in a Makati restaurant opened his eyes to bigger possibilities. Though he once dreamed of managing a restaurant, destiny had other plans.
After graduation, he entered the call center industry, where he discovered his passion for people and leadership. What started as โjust a jobโ became a life-changing career.
His journey in HR Talent Acquisition:
โก๏ธ Promoted to Senior Specialist after just one year
โก๏ธ Rose to Supervisor the year after
โก๏ธ Became Manager, then Senior Manager, leading teams for two years
โก๏ธ Now serves as Head of HR Talent Acquisition for Southeast Asia
Today, Jonel leads regional teams, sits in international meetings, and helps shape the future of organizations across the region, proving that success knows no limits when fueled by perseverance and faith.
โSuccess isnโt born from comfort. It is forged in sacrifice, fueled by perseverance, and sustained by hard work. If a jeepney driverโs son from Sorsogon can become a leader, then so can you.โ
From a simple dreamer to a regional leader Jonelโs story is a testament to the power of education, determination, and the Sorsogon State University College of Technology spirit.
