Mother’s Day is a yearly celebration that honors a mother’s love in its most selfless and nurturing form. A mother—nanay, mommy, mama, inay, and many more—can be portrayed in various ways.

𝗔 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲

Maricel Soriano’s role in Inang Yaya reflects many Filipino nannies whose devotion goes beyond responsibility. Though they are employees and not their alaga’s biological mothers, they never fail to treat them as their own. They give their whole hearts in raising and caring for them, proving that motherhood is defined by love, not by blood.

𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

Vice Ganda in Call Me Mother raises a powerful message that members of the LGBTQ+ community can also embody maternal love. The character highlights that motherhood is not limited by gender or identity, but by the ability to nurture, protect, and raise a child. Motherhood is also often seen in everyday life through housewives. In our society, housewives are often underestimated or misunderstood, with some assuming that their role at home is easy. In reality, their work is constant, demanding, and emotionally exhausting—managing the home, raising children, and ensuring that their family’s needs are met without pause. Alongside them are working mothers who carry the dual responsibility of building a career while still fulfilling their duties at home, showing strength in balance and sacrifice in every role they take.

𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲

Beyond the screen and our homes, teachers in our schools also reflect the spirit of motherhood, as they are often treated as our “𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨.” They guide, correct, and care for their students as if they were their own.

Mother’s Day reminds us that motherhood is not confined to a single definition. It is found in different faces, roles, and stories.

In preparation for the upcoming School Year 2026-2027, teachers of Solano High School, under the leadership of Dr. Trinidad B. Logan, School Principal IV, participated in the online Learning Systems Reform Policies Orientation for Teachers on May 8, 2026.

Together with educators from Regions II, III, IX, and XI, the SHS teachers gathered to gain a deeper understanding of the reforms in the education system, preparations for the opening of classes, the impact of policy reforms on teaching and learning, lesson design, and other significant updates.

The orientation concluded with the message, “𝘓𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥, 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨.”

Dr. Logan also encouraged the teachers to embrace the reforms for the improvement of the teaching and learning process, emphasizing collaboration and commitment in delivering quality education to learners, as highlighted by the speakers during the orientation.

𝗧𝘂𝗴𝗮𝙒𝙄𝙉: How Did 𝘙𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘛𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯
Turn Patience into Victory?

𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 “𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴” 𝗧𝘂𝗴𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗻 of 𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘕𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴 proved that cycling is not always about who attacks first—it is about who waits for the perfect moment.

On Thursday, May 7, the veteran sprinter of 𝗡𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝘇𝗰𝗮𝘆𝗮 claimed victory in 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚 8 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 2026 𝙈𝙋𝙏𝘾 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙪𝙯𝙤𝙣 after completing the 𝟭𝟰𝟴.𝟰-𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 route from 𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙪𝙙𝙥𝙪𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙋𝙖𝙤𝙖𝙮 in 𝟯:𝟭𝟲:𝟱𝟴. Against a younger and aggressive field, Tugawin relied on patience, positioning, and experience to secure the win.

For most of the race, 𝘛𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯 remained hidden inside the peloton, conserving energy and staying protected from the strong coastal winds that exhausted many riders along the route. Rather than forcing early attacks, he carefully waited for the right opportunity.

𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧.

A fierce sprint battle unfolded between 𝘛𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯, 𝘈𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘧 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘕𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘪𝘥𝘪 of the Malaysian National Team, and 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘤 of Go for Gold. Roseidi made the first move, trying to break away before the finish, while Mandac immediately answered the attack as the group entered the final stretch.

𝙏𝙪𝙜𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙢.

Instead of chasing too early, he remained tucked behind both riders, using their slipstream to save every bit of energy possible. Then, in the final 100 meters, he launched a sudden burst of speed that sent him flying past his rivals near the historic Paoay Church, sealing one of the most tactical victories of the tour.

𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚, 𝙏𝙪𝙜𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙣’𝙨 𝙟𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝙉𝙪𝙚𝙫𝙖 𝙑𝙞𝙯𝙘𝙖𝙮𝙖.

Before becoming one of the country’s top riders, 𝘛𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯 worked as a farmer in 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗼, 𝗡𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝘇𝗰𝗮𝘆𝗮. Long days in the fields, carrying heavy harvests and working under the heat, helped build the strength and endurance that would later define his cycling career. Unlike many professional riders, he only began competitive cycling in his mid 20s.

His story proves that talent can grow anywhere and that it’s never too late to chase something bigger.

His strategy during Stage 8 showed several lessons young riders can learn from:

𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Tugawin avoided wasting strength early by staying protected inside the peloton.

𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀. Instead of sprinting too soon, he waited for the right moment before making his final attack.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. As a team captain, Tugawin also focuses on helping teammates stay in position throughout races.

Over the years, 𝘛𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯 has built an impressive career resume. He captured the 2023 National Criterium Championship, won Stage 2 of the 2020 Ronda Pilipinas, and claimed an international stage victory during the 2024 Tour of Friendship in Thailand.

Despite his success, Tugawin continues to emphasize discipline and safety on the road. Young cyclists are reminded to always wear proper safety gear, check their bikes before riding, and remain alert during training and competition.

𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁

While 𝘛𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯 is known for his speed and aggressive racing instincts, his success is also built on discipline and responsibility on the road.

Young cyclists are encouraged to always wear a certified helmet, use reflective gear during low visibility, and regularly inspect their brakes, tires, and chains before riding. Riders should also stay alert, follow traffic rules, avoid distractions, and remember that safety is more important than speed.

As the 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘶𝘻𝘰𝘯 enters its closing stages, 𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗴𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗻 continues to carry the pride of 𝗡𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝘇𝗰𝗮𝘆𝗮, showing that with patience, hard work, and the right strategy, even the toughest finish lines can be conquered. 𝙏𝘾

Solano HS conducts orientation for the 2026 Summer Remediation Programs (SRP)

To inform learners, together with their parents and guardians, Solano High School administered the orientation for the Summer Remediation Programs (SRP) on May 5, 2026, at the school’s gymnasium.

The welcome and opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Trinidad B. Logan, School Principal IV.

She emphasized, “Sa pamamagitan ng summer remediation na ito, i-e-enhance natin ang kanilang learning… we strive for continuous learning.”

The role of parents and guardians was further highlighted as an important element in guiding and encouraging learners to continue learning.

Elvira B. Panis, Head Teacher III, discussed the guidelines of the Summer Remediation Program, which covered Aral Summer Reading, Aral Summer Mathematics, Senior High School Remediation in English and Mathematics, and the Summer Academic Remedial Program (SARP).

On the other hand, Jovelyn B. Morales, Master Teacher I, elaborated on the Aral Summer Programs.

It was explained that the Aral Summer Programs focus on tutorials, while SARP targets the completion of subject competencies.

Eleanor Y. Merlin, Head Teacher III of the AP Department, also discussed the Summer Academic Remedial Program.

Moreover, Dr. Bermelita Guillermo, EPS in English, and Dr. Roger Sebastian, EPS in Filipino, visited and supervised the conduct of the said orientation.

The 2026 Summer Remediation Programs (SRP) will run for four weeks, from May 6 to June 2 (20 days), held Mondays to Fridays. Fridays are designated for home-based learning for learners and for teachers’ preparation of instructional materials.

𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗞𝗠𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Solano High School celebrates the success of its students in the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗜𝗞𝗠𝗖) held last April 6-13, as official result was released recognizing two young mathematicians for their outstanding performance. 𝗠𝘆𝗸𝗵𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻 of 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 12 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘻𝘦 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥, while 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘀 of 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 11 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘔𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥, bringing pride and honor to the school.

The competition gathered over 10,400 participants from across the country, selected by their respective mathematics teachers to represent their schools. Organized locally by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippines, and internationally by the Association Kangourou sans Frontières (AKSF) in Paris, the IKMC is one of the world’s largest math competitions, engaging millions of students from over 100 countries that aims to test their mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking under timed conditions.

Despite the pressure and demands of the competition, Pangilinan and Lucas showed excellence and determination which reflects both their personal commitment. Their achievement is a testament to the potential of Solano High School students in the field of mathematics.

As the school celebrates this achievement, these awardees serve as an inspiration to the students, proving that with hardwork and passion, success in international competitions is within reach.

Keziah Rowena Palabrica, a Solano High School (SHS) student, won a bronze medal in the Clubs Apparatus Finals in Rhythmic Gymnastics during CAVRAA 2026, held on April 12 and 15 at the Brgy. Rosario Sports Complex in Rosario, Santiago City.

Moreover, Palabrica, together with her team, bagged a silver medal in the Team Competition category.

Palabrica was trained by her coach, Ma’am Alpha Ambatali of Diadi National High School, and her trainer, Ma’am Winie G. Dangan of Solano High School.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | Concepcion clinches silver, bronze in chess meet

Lance B. Concepcion, Grade 7- JP Rizal student, brought pride to Solano High School (SHS) after winning a silver medal in the Rapid Team event and a bronze medal in the Standard Team event in Chess during the CAVRAA Meet 2026, held at Balai Santiago, Santiago City last April 12-16, 2026.

He was guided by Coach Erwin Roy S. Cachola, TII, alongside the support of Nueva Vizcaya Chess as part of his training team.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | Lorenzo qualifies for Palarong Pambansa

Mariano Lorenzo IV, a student of Solano High School (SHS), claimed a gold medal in the Pencak Silat combative category and a bronze medal in the artistic category during the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) Meet 2026, held from April 12–16 in Santiago City, securing his spot in the Palarong Pambansa.

Coached by Marlon Gullingay (Combat Category - Men's Division), with Charito Bullanday as the internal trainer and Adzar Abdurazad as the external trainer, Lorenzo continues to demonstrate exceptional skill as he advances to the Palarong Pambansa to be held in Agusan del Sur.
