HOT, SLSU, and LGU Sogod Collaborate on 3D Terrain Visualization and Drone Mapping to Enhance Disaster Planning in Brgy. Libas

The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), together with the Southern Leyte State University GIS Technology Center and the Municipality of Sogod MDRRMO, recently conducted a field engagement activity in Barangay Libas, Sogod, aimed at strengthening local disaster preparedness and resilience through geospatial technologies.

The activity featured 3D terrain visualization, topographic analysis, and drone mapping to better understand the area's elevation, drainage patterns, and flood susceptibility. Updated aerial imagery and geospatial datasets generated during the activity will support future hazard mapping, flood risk assessments, and evidence-based local planning initiatives.

Beyond the technology, the engagement provided opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration among local government personnel, technical experts, barangay officials, and community members, highlighting the value of innovation and partnerships in building safer and more resilient communities.
