NO TO PAX SILICA INITIATIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES!

As technology continues to grow around the world, many governments support large infrastructure projects because they believe these can help improve the economy and create new opportunities. However, we should ask: Will the Pax Silica Initiative truly benefit the Philippines, or will it mainly serve the interests of other countries?

The Pax Silica Initiative is a U.S.-led partnership that aims to strengthen the supply of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. Under this plan, the Philippines would host a 4,000-acre industrial hub in New Clark City.
Supporters say the project will create jobs, attract investments, and help modernize the country's industries. But there are also important concerns that should not be ignored:

National Sovereignty โ€“ Depending too much on a foreign-led project could reduce the Philippines' ability to make independent decisions and may involve the country in global political conflicts.

Communities and Land Rights โ€“ The project could affect the ancestral lands of the Aeta people and reduce agricultural areas that many families depend on for their livelihood.

Environmental Impact โ€“ Factories for mineral processing and technology production use large amounts of water and electricity, which may harm the environment and put pressure on local resources.

Limited Benefits for Filipinos โ€“ If there are no strong policies to protect local industries and workers, the Philippines may only provide raw materials while other countries gain most of the profits and advanced technology.

We should support development that protects our country's resources, respects local communities, and ensures that economic progress benefits all Filipinosโ€”not just foreign investors.
