Sipalay Coastal Cleanup: A Collective Action Towards Sustainable Tourism.๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ

Sipalay City in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines, boasts its white shores not just as a beautiful tourist spot but as a significant ecosystem that needs maintenance through people's efforts regularly. On August 1, 2025, it manifested in a large coastal cleanup activity involving hundreds of volunteers. Organizing this activity were the Sipalay City Tourism Development and Promotion Office and Barangay Nauhang Council. Indeed, such an event represents an excellent example of people's cooperation in environmental management of an island that proves the collaboration between tourism and nature conservation. The Barangay Nauhang Mass Coastal Clean-up Drive is not an isolated activity but a well-planned program addressing the increasing garbage issue. Regular high tides inundate shores with trash, which deteriorates the aesthetic and ecological health of the beaches. This actions is taking the initiative approach to tackle the Clean-up drive prior to August Tourism Month and strengthens sustainable tourism practices of the city.

The operation's success is largely linked to multi-sectoral coordination.

Gil Montilla National High School (GMNHS) was one of the major actors in the drama, bringing along students and teachers to join in the cleanup. This is a testament to the saying that "Change begins with education because it creates responsible citizens empowered to take part in active participation with their peers in defending their environment." But students were far from being the sole participants in this cleanup effort; there was broad representation of organizations and government agencies, including the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, and representatives from other student groups. Also, around were members of the 15th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, which only strengthened the fact that the nation backs up this call and commitment.

The cleanup process was coordinated with strategies; volunteer teams present were directed into operations in three priority areas, namely, Sugar Beach, Purok Bukana, and Purok Saka-Saka, to ensure coverage and maximize effect. The two-hour activity closed with a well-earned meal courtesy of the Sipalay City Mobile Kitchen.

But when such combined action makes counts comes a strong statement on the essence of interconnection between tourism, environmental integrity, and human welfareโ€”and this is the real success of the event: the amount of garbage collected. Active community participation is a foundation of what can be achieved in promoting long-term sustainable tourism to protect this beautiful coastal haven.

PEACE๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ WITH S.E.E.D.S.๐ŸŒฑ

July 21, 2025 | The kick-off of the PEACE (Powering Empathy, Acceptance, and Connection Everyday) Campaign, aimed at nurturing safe schools in the DEPED Negros Island Region, was undeniably a success. This achievement was made possible through the full support of our very competent Principal, Ma'am Edna T. Arbon; Junior High School Coordinator, Ma'am Marjorie B. Omagtang; President of the Teachers' League, Ma'am Debbie L. Occeรฑa; and our special guest, Kagawad Educator Committee Chair, Honorable Cynthia E. Galvan. Also instrumental were the YES-O, SSLG, BSP, and GSP.

The program, which promotes a safe and inclusive school environment under DEPED Order 40 Series of 2012, was led by our very own Guidance Counselor, Ma'am Glenora G. Arnold. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of peace, empathy, and conflict resolution to create a safe environment that doesn't tolerate violence and bullyingโ€”a haven that protects and respects every student in Gil Montilla National High School.

The event concluded with the solemn "Bully-Free Pledge," where participants promised personal accountability in refraining from bullying, active bystander intervention to support victims, and a collective effort to cultivate a culture of respect, fairness, and safety for everyone in the school.

Last but not least, every S.E.E.D.S. must uphold the โœจGolden Ruleโœจ: "Respect others and treat them the way you want to be treated." ๐Ÿšซ No to Bullying, No to Violence. โš ๏ธ

Rooting for a greener future, one seedling at a time! ๐ŸŒฑ

In accordance to Project Fly High, GMNHS conducts a tree planting activity. The YES-O together with the BSP, GSP, SSLG, teachers, and school heads, gathered to get their hands dirty and plant the seedlings that bring life to our campus. Each tree planted isn't just a step toward a more beautiful school environment, but a powerful lesson in responsibility and sustainability. These eco-warriors are not only learning the importance of caring for our planet but are also actively contributing to its well-being. These are just small steps but it encourages students and individuals to take actions that contribute largely to our environment.

Say YES to a greener environment, and YES-SER to a sustainable future.
