The 5-day Drug Abuse Prevention cm Health and Wellness Advocacy program held on December 1-5, 2015 indeed was a big success. It was well-participated by students and faculty of the Dona Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School. Different sectors in the community like the parents, city officials and soldiers of the 62 Infantry Battalion also expressed their support by joining the activities.
The two days symposium on the Effects of Drug Use/Abuse/Misuse to all Grade 7 students on December 2 and 3 was very enlightening. The Resource Speaker Pastor Raul Remada Jr. shared his life’s experience having been a victim of drug abuse in his teens. He put emphasis on how drugs, alcohol, and the ni****ne in ci******es can destroy one’s life and relationships. His final advice to the Grade 7 students is to never allow curiosity and peer pressure influence them to use prohibited drugs, instead, commit their lives to God who can ultimately bring positive changes in one’s life.
The symposium for the parents of the 4Ps beneficiaries of Brgy. Rizal on December 4 reminded them on their parental responsibilities as Pastor Remada emphasized on being a good “role model” to their children. Silay City Councilor Ailene Javier inspired the parents of her program of activities for the women parents being a Gender and Development advocate herself.
The first part of the finale of the 5-day program was a 3K Run participated by 32 student runners while more than 300 fun runners composed of students and club advisers successfully reached the finishing line at the DMLMHS quadrangle. Ten winners in the competition received cash awards while the other competitors and fun runners enjoyed a hot breakfast meal sponsored by the cooperative store owner Mrs. Chauttie Echavez. A Zumba craze led by Values Education and MAPEH teachers invigorated and inspired students to start their own health and wellness program through dancercise.
