The Reverent Mother General Sister Concetta Aranzulla, Superior General of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Ragusa, who resided at the Generalate House in Rome, Italy, sent a sister to the Philippines in 1998 for the possible opening of a school. This was the result of the prayerful decision made by Mother General and her Council for the realization and actualization of the charism and spirituality of the Congregation. As a result, a sister arrived in Merville, Paranaque in 1998 to prepare everything for the school. During the time, the construction of the sister’s Convent was going in Silang. The sisters started soliciting from their benefactors all the necessary materials needed. In fact, the Magallanes Family of Merville donated the facilities for the Pre-School; this is in memory of the late Magallanes Sisters. The Ateneo de Manila elementary department donated books and other materials for the library. The necessary documents were accomplished and completed within a year. In the year 1999, Sisters who were based in Italy were recalled back to Philippines by the Reverend Mother to teach and handle classes of the new school. Thus, the school year 1999-2000, was the formal beginning of the school. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports granted a yearly renewable permit for the pre-school and elementary. This means that the permit will be renewed yearly, until further definite approval by the DECS be given. Sacred Heart Villa School “Maria Schinina” was named after a branch in Lewiston, New York. While Maria Schinina name in honor of Blessed Maria Schinina, foundress of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Ragusa. Its curriculum follows the prescribed curriculum by the DECS, however, there are additional programs which are based and adapted from that of Lewiston and Rome, affiliated school of SHVS. The school is striving to generate in their students a love of God, a commitment to the teaching of the Gospel and wholesome desire to the people in which they live. Striving for academic excellence and quality education, the school is convinced that these are the essential foundations for student’s success in higher education. On the 2nd of May 2000, the school received the GOVERNMENT RECOGNITION of Nursery, kinder and Preparatory and Elementary Level on the 25th of May the following year. In the year 2001-2002, the school was transferred to the new building, which could accommodate twenty seven classrooms. An orphanage, which is Saint Joseph Children’s Home was also opened in the old building. The school has been greatly helped by Santa Isabel College, Saint John de Baptist Ville Academy, the Mapua Institute of Technology and the Philippines Normal University for sowing the seeds of foundation of SACRED HEART VILLA SCHOOL “Maria Schinina”.
