The Department of Education is one with the nation in the observance of the National No Smoking Month (NNSM) this June!

With this year's theme "To***co: Threat to the Environment," the NNSM aims to raise awareness, especially to the Department's stakeholders, on the harmful effects of smoking towards people and the environment.

𝙊𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙃𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙮𝙡𝙖𝙣, 𝙉𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙨 𝙊𝙘𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡

May 9, 2022 - The Youth Formation Division (YFD) strongly condemns the shooting incident that happened at Himamaylan, Negros Occidental.

This tragic incident happened to teacher Mercy “Nene” Nequia-Miguel, a poll worker for this year’s National and Local Elections and mother of the Himamaylan Division Federation Supreme Student Government (DFSSG) President, deeply saddens the YFD family.

We would like to reiterate that YFD strongly denounces any acts of violence toward our teachers and personnel, and even toward anyone, especially at this crucial time when we practice our democratic and civic duty through the national elections.

YFD extends its sincerest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of the victim. Rest assured that the Department of Education (DepEd) is closely coordinating with the families of the victim to extend support and assistance.

Let us all pray for a safe, fair, and peaceful election for the future of our youth and all Filipino learners.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Youth Affairs and Special Concerns – Youth Formation Division (OASYASC-YFD), in partnership with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), will conduct the Pulse of the Youth: National Voter’s Education Campaign for the 2022 Elections on April 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. via the DepEd Tayo – Youth Formation official page.

This activity aims to educate young people about the election voting process and mechanics; highlight the importance of roles, responsibilities, and rights of young voters; and enhance the thrust for youth participation in the upcoming 2022 national elections.
