A change in circumstance does not equate to a change in attitude! The 4th National Conference on Science, Technology, and Mathematics Education now continues at the PNU Audio-Visual (AV) Theater.

The last keynote address of this year's Conference was delivered by Dr. Ivy P. Mejia from the UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED).

With the talk entitled: "Creative Thinking in STEM Education," Dr. Mejia led a thorough discussion of the recent PISA Creative Thinking assessment and its implications in scientific literacy.

β€œAs science and mathematics teachers, there's a call for action. Laliman [natin] ang paliwanag sa [mga estudyante] when it comes to experiments… Let them exercise the creativity within them to conduct experiments and explain phenomena scientifically,” Dr. Mejia said.

Mr. Mark Ivan Roblas, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) delivers the fourth keynote address of this year's Conference.

With the talk entitled: "Communicating STEM for Nation-Building and the Future," Mr. Roblas underscores the role of data-driven yet accessible communication to address, discuss, and act upon the societal problems of today.

"Data is not enough. We need to see how data plays in our lives,” Mr. Roblas said.

Mr. Roblas also emphasized the importance of public forums such as this Conference in order to exchange ideas and solutions about the pressing needs of science and beyond.

"Iba-iba po ang pagtingin ng mga kababayan natin pagdating sa siyensya. We want more people talking about science. We have a lot of content creators, but there are only a few who are talking about science. Imagine if we have more. That's what we need more."
